    Evans 3-6 1-0 Cilic*

Cilic is boshing Evans all over the place and Evans is struggling to find an answer as he reaches and stretches for a series of points to go 15-40 down.

A pair of good serves put Evans back to deuce - and a "come on" under the breath from the Brit.

A lovely pick-up shot from the toes gets him advantage - argh but a double undoes the work.

A Cilic backhand down the line is stopped by the net and a sloppy forehand goes wide.

A huge hold for Evans, who you fancy might have been done and dusted had he been broken.

    *Evans 3-6 Cilic

Cilic tries to work Evans around the court again but the Brit is on to him and guesses the right way for a winner.

And he looks on top of the next rally - slowing down the pace - but bangs his racket on the floor when he flops a shot against the net.

Evans certainly has a better measure of the big Cilic serve, but he's not converting the rallies as he goes long twice in succession to surrender the set.

    Evans 3-5 Cilic*

Evans could do with an easy hold to stay in the set and he gets just that - four big serves see him through 40-15.

    *Evans 2-5 Cilic

The doctor is out to look at Evans' left eye - he may have some dust in there.

I think he's asked "do you know where you are?"

Evans laughs as if to say - "yeah, of course I do, I've just got something in my eye".

Anyway, he's good to go again, albeit still fiddling with that eye.

    *Evans 2-5 Cilic

Cilic lets two points slip on his serve to be in the unfamiliar position of 0-30.

But the big man has Evans scampering and a clean crosscourt forehand puts him on the comeback trail, followed by one that goes long from Evans and an unreachable serve.

Evans battles back to deuce, only for Cilic to knock him back down with a smash at the net and then send the Brit the wrong way at the baseline.

Evans can take encouragement from that though.

    Evans 2-4 Cilic*

Evans is really having to battle his way into this. He's not come out full of beans and has been fiddling with his eye a bit.

It looks like he's asked for a medic to come out and take a look - the umpire is on the blower now to get someone over.

Evans continues to battle on though and is at deuce on his serve.

Cilic pops a return into the net and miscues a backhand return high and wide.

Important hold that for the Brit.

It's a pretty ominous start for Evans. He's not really feeling the ball or sure of the best tactics.

  10. Watson & Broady battle into third setpublished at 07:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Knapp/Minella 7-5 2-6 4-5 Watson/Broady

Naomi Broady and Heather Watson are also in action today in the first round of the women's doubles.

They lost the first set against Italy's Karin Knapp and Luxembourg's Mandy Minella but they've tidied up nicely in the second set to take it to a decider. The score currently reads 7-5 2-6 4-5.

The pair reached the third round of Wimbledon, as seen below, last year, where Watson took an accidental body blow from her partner. Ouch.

    *Evans 1-4 Cilic

Evans, 0-15 down, challenges a Cilic shot he thinks is long. Quite a late challenge - but he's wrong anyway.

Now Cilic has him bumping all round the baseline and steps in to hit a forehand winner, before bouncing down an ace for the hold.

    Evans 1-3 Cilic*

Evans can find the occasional bomb on his service and here's two of them - one which Cilic can't return and then an ace down the middle.

And he's on the board with a lovely sliced drop shot down the line that Cilic dinks into the net.

    *Evans 0-3 Cilic

Cilic's serve laser has been set to high intensity - he's just landing it every time and immediately Evans is under pressure at every point.

Cilic races to a 40-0 lead and even though he puts a forehand into the net, he closes out the game with a down-the-middle serve that Evans gets a limp racket to.

    Evans 0-2 Cilic*

Evans is going to have to grind out the rallies if he's to get anything from Cilic and, while he concedes three points with iffy serving, he comes out on top of two slug fests with the Croat.

But Cilic takes the early break with a punchy forehand.

    *Evans 0-1 Cilic

If Evans had any doubt about what he'd be facing today, he won't now.

Four big serves from big Cilic and four easy points.

    *Seppi 0-3 Kyrgios

Big Nick's not here to put boots on caterpillars.

He's already a break up. Although he has to battle from deuce numerous times to hold his serve and move to 3-0.

  18. 'Dude, that is still my favourite match of all time'published at 07:28 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

In 2015, Nick Kyrgios and Andreas Seppi met at the Australian Open in a five-set belter.

"Dude, that is still my favourite match of all time," Kyrgios tells Seppi as they come on court.

I wonder what else is in his top 10?

Love him or hate him, expect some fireworks.

The bad boy of tennis Nick Kyrgios is up imminently on court in the Hisense Arena to face Italian Andreas Seppi.

Kygrios dispatched Portugal's Gastao Elias with considerable ease in the first round.

He's a popular guy around Melbourne Park with rock star status.
