Already you can hear the British crowd. Nowadays in the Davis Cup, it can be like you're playing at home. It's incredible what they've done.

Right then, here we go. First up is Canada's 17-year-old Denis Shapovalov against Britain's highest-ranked player Dan Evans.

I was trying to sneak into Yorkshire nightclubs when I was Shapovalov's age. He's got someone holding up a cardboard cutout of his face at a major international sporting event.

After the flag-bearing and anthem-singing in Ottawa, the ceremonial niceties are over. Not quite got a full house in the arena, but there's plenty of colour around the place. And, of course, the Stirling University Barmy Army are making a racket. Do these lot ever do any studying?

    Canada v Great Britain

Hello! While everyone wants some magic, Great Britain do not want a Cupset. Because that's what a defeat for the Andy Murrayless Brits would be against Canada in their Davis Cup world stage opener.

While missing the world number one is a big blow for Britain, his absence has been tempered by Canada losing their own main man, Milos Raonic.

Nope, we're not talking about the FA Cup. We're talking about the Davis Cup. Like football's famous old competition, the biggest team event in tennis has faced a few questions in recent years.

Yet it continues to deliver. Thrills, spills and plenty of shocks. Fingers crossed the 'magic of the cup' makes an appearance tonight...

Debate has raged all week. Weakened teams are missing their star names. Young players are being given opportunities as a result. Start times have been shuffled around to all sorts of hours. Do these factors combined mean this prestigious, historic competition is being devalued?
