Twenty minutes ago I was saying Edmund was winning the long exchanges but Pospisil played that one brilliantly. What a big point.

Kyle Edmund takes a seat and composes himself alongside captain Leon Smith. A few deep breaths, and we're back on.

But it's not going well for the Briton. Pospisil moves to 30-40 and has another break point.

Both players get low in a decent exchange and Edmund can only send the ball into the net.

    Pospisil makes the break.

Pospisil has that old serve volleyer build. I was expecting him to come forward and serve volley quite a lot anyway, even before the injury. Now I would be amazed if we didn't see two or three points a game where is he is serve volleying. He is very natural at the net.

A love service game with a dodgy knee? Nice work from Vasek Pospisil.

Getting a break of serve would have been a great painkiller for Pospisil.

  6. Edmunds fends off dangerpublished at 23:33 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2017

    *Pospisil 6-4 1-1 Edmund

Pospisil is not moving well at all. His left knee is still giving him some jip, it seems.

But look out, he's got break point! It can't hurt *that* much.

Edmund saves one and then saves another after a couple of trips to deuce.

The Briton takes the advantage and eventually holds. A relief for GB.

Pospisil is definitely not pushing off fully on his left knee. He's hoping it can hold up. There's a lot of tennis to be played tonight and this weekend.

    Pospisil 6-4 1-0 Edmund*

Pospisil is ripping through his service game with some speed to move to 40-0, but Kyle Edmund stops him in his tracks with a pinpoint winner in the corner.

The Canadian then sinks a shot into the net, before Edmund finds the corner again with a dead straight forehand. Deuce!

Edmund is unable to make the breakthrough, though, as Pospisil takes the advantage and serves out the game with an ace.

That looked like classic scoreboard pressure on a quick court. There were a few points where Kyle Edmund made errors early in the point, which he wouldn't have made on medium-paced courts.

Edmund's game is difficult for him to be effective on this court where as Pospisil knows it is helping him.

Watch the best of the action as Dan Evans sees off Canada's 17-year-old Denis Shapovalov in straight sets to win his first match as Great Britain's Davis Cup number one.

    *Pospisil 6-4 Edmund

Oh yeah, the Canadians in the crowd are up for this now as Pospisil takes the first point of the game.

Kyle Edmund levels, but a stray backhand edges his opponent to 15-30.

And the crowd are on their feet again as Pospisil brings up two break and set points.

The first goes amiss as he plummets the ball into the net but then Edmund does the same and it's first set, first blood Canada in this second rubber.

Kyle Edmund has a bit of freedom knowing Great Britain are 1-0 up. Not an enormous amount of chat between Edmund and Leon Smith at the changeover. Total contrast to Dan Evans - there was a lot of chatter.

A big cheer from the home crowd as Vasek Pospisil serves big and hard and holds again.

    *Pospisil 4-4 Edmund

A first double fault from Vasek Pospisil now, and the British fans start chanting 'here we go, here we go, here we go', in a football terrace-style.

But they spoke too soon. Kyle Edmund immediately makes an unforced error on the next point.

But the Canadian is causing himself problems, and now Edmund steals break point - his third of the set.

Can he make it count this time? Erm, well, not yet, as Pospisil has just sent down a HUGE ace to take us back to deuce.

A tactical challenge from Edmund proves fruitless. It's well in.

    *Pospisil 4-4 Edmund

    Chris Bradnam

Pospisil is receiving a bit more treatment on that left knee from the trainer. He is allowed two more of these after the medical timeout and then no more unless it is a separate injury. He is clearly taking precautionary advice. Now he has got one more of these left - then his leg is on its own.

    *Pospisil 4-4 Edmund

After another short knee-rub, a change of ends and a shout of 'new balls please', we're back out again.

Kyle Edmund looks frustrated as he double faults for the first time but he composes himself to hold serve again.

    Pospisil 4-3 Edmund*

Kyle Edmund comes out on top after a lovely rally - the longest exchange we've seen so far - as the pair slip and slide across the back of the court.

But Pospisil's drop shot outfoxes his opponent and make Edmund skew the ball well wide.

The Canadian serves an ace for 40-15 and holds as Edmund puts wide again.

Half an hour gone. No-one is budging so far.

Watching these points I can't help but think what it would have been like to play Milos Raonic on this court. Frightening probably.

    *Pospisil 3-3 Edmund

How will Kyle Edmund respond to that short break in play?

Well, it looks like he's going to serve to love but then flicks into the net on two occasions to make it 40-30.

Luckily for the Briton, Pospisil goes long and Edmund levels again in the opening set.
