So that's straight-set victories for both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in round one.

Can the other big names in the men's draw, Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka do the same? They're both in action on Tuesday and we'll be back then to find out.

Britain's Johanna Konta will also get her campaign under way on Tuesday, as will Kyle Edmund.

Until then, goodbye. You can follow all of the rest of today's scores here.

We'd love to know what Boris Becker, Novak Djokovic's former coach, had to say to Andre Agassi - the man who replaced him.

Nadal is the headline act and pretty much lived up to his billing, although an unexpected rash of errors almost cost him the second set, which could have made things tricky. The moment he was announced on court as "the champion of 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 etc" was pretty electrifying and he has every chance of making it 10 titles a week on Sunday.

Paire, meanwhile, has to endure a TV interview on his way off court. "Le loser interview", as someone unkindly describes it.

He's looking very good. He's had a terrific clay court season so far and looks so strong - physically and mentally.

Rafa's ever-powerful and looks really confident.

    Nadal 6-1 6-4 6-1 Paire

Sealed with a big smash. Rafael Nadal is into round two to play Robin Haase.

Sets one and three were comfortable. The nine-time champion was tested a little by Beniot Paire in the second set but he seals the win in one hour 52 minutes.

Too good. Paire looks on top of a rally, and is in with a chance of opening up a break point opportunity, but again Nadal hits a backhand passing shot while on the slide.

The game is in the bag with another big forehand, accompanied by the usual grunt. Nadal is a game away from the second round.

    *Nadal 6-1 6-4 4-1 Paire

Beniot Paire's dry cleaner won't be happy. The Frenchman misses a sitter running towards the net and then takes a tumble, covering his white shorts in red dirt.

Nadal checks if his opponent is OK and then carries on dismantling another of Paire's service games. The ultimate pro.

If Paire is struggling, Nadal looks fresh as a daisy. He looks like he wants his done as soon as possible.

Someone in the crowd shouts out mid-point as Nadal moves to 40-0, which adds more frustration added to the head of Benoit Paire.

Nadal is not letting anything bother him. He seals the game.

The Paire racquet is living on borrowed time as its owner repeatedly motions to crack it into a thousand pieces. Playing Nadal on clay can do this to a man. Bent double at the changeover, sipping on something fizzy and staring forlornly at his team, the Frenchman is not giving off the comeback vibe.

    *Nadal 6-1 6-4 2-1 Paire

Facing defeat, Benoit Paire is not happy out there.

He is having trouble with his stomach, perhaps a pulled muscle, but for now is carrying on. I'm not certain if this is an actual or injury or if Paire is just frustrated at how this match is going. Despite the potential injury, the Frenchman manages to hold onto his serve.

    Djokovic 6-3 6-4 6-2 Granollers

That's it. Novak Djokovic is through to the second round after a really entertaining match.

He's certainly not in vintage form, but the world number two is through in straight sets.

Novak Djokovic is serving for the match but given the amount of breaks in this set, I wouldn't bet on him doing it now.

Yep, I'm right...three break points to Granollers!

  16. Djokovic to serve for the matchpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

    *Djokovic 6-3 6-4 5-2 Granollers

Marcel Granollers is pulling all sorts of tricks out of the box. Smashes, sliding volleys. He's been thoroughly entertaining against the world number two.

But he's struggling to hold his serve.

On deuce, he sends a poor backhand wide and gifts Djokovic the break point.

And then the Spaniard can only swipe the ball wide again. For the fourth successive time, Granollers' serve is broken.

    *Nadal 6-1 6-4 1-0 Paire

Paire gave that second set his all but in the end Rafa was just too good. I'm not sure how much the Frenchman has left. This one could run away from him. From 15-40 down the bearded Benoit battles back to deuce but in the end Nadal breaks serve again.

You beauty! Granollers comes rushing into the net, and just when you think he's going to hit it cross-court, he bends his wrist and hits it to the left of Novak Djokovic. Lovely job.

The Spaniard has break point...and Djokovic can only smack into the net.

    This match isn't over yet.

Packed to the rafters, people arguing over seats, clay marks being disputed, a Frenchman flashing winners and a nine-time champion holding firm - this is what the French Open is all about. Nadal is briefly held up as a woman is ritually jeered out of the stadium, having attempted to claim what I'm guessing are her seats for the last three changeovers. C'est la vie, Rafa rolls on...

  20. Game and second setpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

    Nadal 6-1 6-4 Paire

Nadal seals the second set as a wild backhand from Paire goes long.

That game included a lengthy debate between the Frenchman and British umpire James Keothavong. Paire believed a ball mark in the clay showed a Nadal shot went long. Keothavong disagreed though and both players nip off for a break at the end of the set.
