Djokovic looks a little bit calmer when hitting the ball whereas Granollers is trying to do a little bit too much because he has to go for his shots against someone as good as Djokovic and is making a few too many errors.

    *Djokovic 6-3 1-0 Granollers

Marcel Granollers, who has some black strapping on his right ankle, isn't playing badly, he's just lacking a bit of concentration - and Djokovic is ready to pounce.

The Serb has a break point, but he hits long after a low rally.

However, after deuce, Djokovic has the advantage and another chance to break.

He takes the game after Granollers hits into the net.

Many thought we had seen the last of Rafa Nadal at the top of the men's game but 2017 has seen the 30-year-old return right back where he belongs.

After that remarkable run to the Australian Open final, eventually losing to Roger Federer, he has been at his dominant best on clay, losing only once.

Nadal has won titles in Monte Carlo and Barcelona this year and comes here well and truly as one of the main contenders.

The nine-time champion gets a huge reception as his name is read out on court, as does the home favourite Benoit Paire of course.

There's a buzz about the place at Suzanne Lenglen, possibly the best court for atmosphere on the Grand Slam circuit. A cheerful Fernando Verdasco is seen strolling the tunnels beneath the court, where the player lounge is a magnet for relaxing superstars and their entourages, while above ground Guy Forget does the intros, drawing an unexpected chant of "Guy Forget! Guy Forget!"

    They're up for it.

    Djokovic 5-2 Granollers*

It wasn't comfortable, but a curved forehand winner sees Djokovic hold. He's a game away from taking the opening set.

The world number two might need to chill out a bit, though. He looks rattled and is being quite snappy with the ball boys and girls.

The booming announcement of defending champion Novak Djokovic's arrival on Chatrier was heard on the upper tiers of Court Three, where Bedene was closing in on victory having weathered the Harrison storm. Davis Cup captain Leon Smith is among the fairly sparse crowd, how he must wish he could call upon the clay-court expertise of Bedene.
