    Harrison 4-5 Bedene*

Two errors from Harrison gives Bedene a comfortable start to this game. 30-0.

Now three errors in a row from the British number three. That wasn't in the script. 30-40. A chance for Harrison to break back but the serve gets Bedene out of trouble.

The Briton forces a mistake from his opponent on the next point. Set point Bedene.

Schiavone's lost the momentum she had before.

    Harrison 4-3 Bedene*

Here is a chance for Bedene as he fights his way to deuce on the Harrison serve.

The 27-year-old is in fantastic form remember, winning 20 of his 23 matches on clay this year, but this one is tight.

Bedene goes for a forehand winner down the line but clip of the net cord takes the ball long and the American holds.

    Muguruza 3-2 Schiavone

There's a short delay on Philippe Chatrier court as it looks like someone has been taken ill in the crowd.

Perhaps the heat in Paris is getting to the spectators.

We may have to wait for paramedics to arrive before continuing.

The umpire has told the players to take a seat for the time being.

  11. Schiavone fends off four break pointspublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

    *Muguruza 3-2 Schiavone

Muguruza quickly earns three break points. She's a woman on a mission.

But here comes Schiavone on the charge. She takes it to deuce.

After the longest rally of the match so far, Muguruza delights the small but appreciative crowd with a beautiful lob to earn a fourth break point of the game. That was really wonderful.

But once again Schiavone pulls it back, and the 36-year-old Italian produces some vintage moves to hold serve.

It's tablet-meltingly hot on Court Three, already up to 28C with an occasional, merciful gust of breeze. Hidden away up a discreet staircase at the back of Roland Garros, it's probably the quietest court on site.

Temperatures are already fraying, with the umpire castigating the tournament staff for wandering around between points. Bedene is likely to remain cool, but Harrison has a fairly combustible personality and might get testy.

    Harrison 3-2 Bedene*

After the early excitement of the two breaks, this US-British affair has settled into a more conventional pattern with three service holds.

Ryan Harrison looks a similar build to Swiss former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka but has not shown the same thundering groundstrokes so far.

The rallies have been pretty lengthy early on.

  14. Schiavone breaks backpublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

    Muguruza 3-1 Schiavone*

A cracking forehand, with plenty of spin, tricks Muguruza and Schiavone nabs the first point of the game.

And soon she earns two break points, with the Spaniard's shots suddenly looking a bit lose.

Schiavone loops a beauty of a cross-court winner on to the chalk and she breaks back.

  16. Muguruza breaks againpublished at 10:21 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

    *Muguruza 3-0 Schiavone

Schiavone finally wins a point on serve when Muguruza's return goes wayward.

The Italian moves to 30-15 but is pulled back again by the defending champion, whose backhand looks deadly.

And Muguruza's forehand winner earns the Spaniard a break point - she can't take it, though. We go to deuce.

But now Muguruza has the advantage and Schiavone sends her backhand long!

    Another break for the 23-year-old.

    *Harrison 1-1 Bedene

Ryan Harrison - the higher ranked of these two players - matches Britain's Bedene by breaking back at the first time of asking.

This game has been a really good watch in the early stages. Plenty of drop shots and good angles found by both men. There's not a big crowd out on Court Three but those who are there are impressed.

After a sweltering night, especially for anyone in a hotel with broken air-con, it's another sultry morning in western Paris. The temperature is forecast to nudge 30C again, with the threat of a thunderstorm this afternoon, then cool down from tomorrow. Dan Evans described conditions as "like torture" yesterday, and today looks set to be similarly gruelling.
