    Nadal 3-1 Millman*

Nadal goes through his usual routine before he serves out a straightforward hold, a battered forehand probably the finest shot among them.

    *Nadal 2-1 Millman

All going rather well, this, for Rafael Nadal.

He's moving around nicely, out-muscling John Millman with his forehand, but then the Australian draws him into a tremendous rally. He slices the ball in low and it stops Nadal from opening up his shoulders and crashing down a winner.

Two break points go begging for Nadal, and Millman holds courtesy of a divine backhand down the line, and a crashing final serve

A hero's welcome back to Wimbledon greets Rafa Nadal.

The 15-time Grand Slam champion missed last year's tournament with a wrist injury, and is greeted by the excited Court One crowd with a cacophony of cheers, claps, whoops and the odd 'Vamos!"

A pop of a champagne cork as Rafa walks to the baseline has everyone chuckling.

On the evidence of an impressive opening break, the Spaniard might be celebrating a victory in the not too distant future.

I know, I know... there's a long way to go.

    Murray 6-1 6-4 6-2 Bublik

More from Andy Murray: “I was chatting to Bublik in the rain delay and before we went back out, chatting about Centre Court and the match as well, which is pretty rare but he's a character. He tries different shots and I think the crowd enjoyed the way he plays as well as his personality.

“I'll spend some time with my physio this evening, get an ice bath then have a light practice tomorrow. I'll work a bit on my passing shots and lobs because it will be a different match against Dustin Brown.”

    Murray 6-1 6-4 6-2 Bublik

Andy Murray speaking on BBC Two after his win over Alexander Bublik: "I feel pretty good, the last few days I had been feeling better each day. Getting out on the match court is different, the intensity is higher and the adrenaline helps numbs some pain. I moved well today and thought I did pretty well for the first match.

"I wasn't thinking about the rain too much, I felt comfortable on foot today. The first few days on the court can be a bit slippery but I didn't feel like I was losing my footing at all."

    *Nadal 1-0 Millman

A floaty little backhand from Nadal wrong-foots Millman, who flaps his return into the net as the Spaniard takes a 0-40 leave.

The Australian gets on the board with an ace, but another slice into the net off the forehand means Nadal snaffles the break.

    Nadal v Millman

John Millman sits and waits as Rafa Nadal, as he does, hits a few extra practice serves.

Both players march out to a warm round of applause from the Court One crowd. It'll be Millman to serve first.

    Nadal v Millman

Rafael Nadal has won 81% of his matches at Wimbledon. He's got John Millman in his sights

Millman has had a tough year - he's spent much of it out injured with hip and groin problems. In fact, he's only played one match on the main tour this year, and that was the first round at the French Open.

He's also a massive Liverpool fan, apparently.

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

We weren't sure about Murray at the beginning of the match but we are much smarter now. He is fit enough. Yes, he did wobble and limp at times but he got more confident as he went on. An excellent start.

    Murray 6-1 6-4 6-2 Bublik

Alexander Bublik leaves Centre Court with a big smile on his face.

The 20-year-old had only played seven tour-level matches before being given a lucky loser place at SW19 - against the world number one, of all people.

Despite the scoreline, he certainly entertained the crowd.

Murray also heads off the grass, signing autographs and posing for photos. As he heads down the tunnel, he's got a visible limp. We'll see what he has to stay about that hip injury in a mo.

    Murray 6-1 6-4 6-2 Bublik

Bingo! Andy Murray is through to the second round.

The defending champion has three match points, and although one goes to waste, he needs only one more chance to take it.

Bublik considered challenging Murray's winner as it hit the line, but he didn't bother in the end.

Bublik thinks he's shanked a forehand into the net, but to his surprise it goes over and he then lobs his opponent to take the point.

The 20-year-old sends down another ace to make it 30-30.

And then an entertaining exchange at the net ends with Murray slicing cross-court and almost smacking Bublik in the gob. That would have hurt.

Alexander Bublik points to the sky, as if to suggest it's raining again. He shrugs when no one takes any notice of him.

The Kazakh goes on to hit wildly high and over into the crowd as Murray extends his lead to 40-15.

The world number one then holds as he outsmarts his opponent at the net. He's edging closer to the second round.

What do you do at Wimbledon when there is a splatter of rain? Appease your stomach.

These rain poncho wearers sensibly keep dry as they, like plenty of others, have a drink and open their picnics on Murray Mound.

Others, who didn't opt to lovingly craft some homemade grub, queue up for some greasy chicken and chips.

Best part of a tenner gets you a tray full of the stuff. And as this queue shows it is pretty popular...
