  1. Rain stops play againpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    Murray 6-1 6-4 2-0 Bublik*

Murray moves to 40-15, and has a quick look up at the grey sky. It looks a bit gloomy.

His concentration returns to court and he sees out the service game.

And almost instantly, the rain begins to pour again.

Covers back on, players back off. Grrrrrr.

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) 5-3 Mertens

What a time for the rain to arrive. Second match point saved by Elise Mertens, we're back to deuce, and the rain has decided to make its presence known.

    Charming.

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) 5-3 Mertens*

A drop shot and a half from Elise Mertens, completely changing her pace and wrong-footing Venus Williams. There's a sardonic smile from her opponent as she sprawls for the ball - and misses.

That gives the Belgian the advantage, but a double fault takes us back to deuce.

A corker of a forehand from Williams, the ball landing on the line by a millimeter, gives her match point.. and it's saved by a superb lob from Mertens! That was incredible skill, tapping the ball over Williams' head with perfect placement.

    Erakovic 4-6 1-6 Halep

In a wide open women's draw, you could do worse than plump for Simona Halep as your eventual champion.

The Romanian second seed has seen off New Zealand's Marina Erakovic in straight sets 6-4 6-1. The first set was in the balance for a while but that was a very comfortable second set for Halep.

The defeated 2017 French Open finalist storms into round two.

  6. Murray wins second setpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

Whilst we are waiting for the match to resume, here's Murray taking the second set against Bublik with an impressive forehand.

It looks like it won't be a long before Murray and Bublik are back out on the slightly soggy grass.

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) 5-3 Mertens*

That's a superb flick of the wrists from Elise Mertens, as casual as you like to get a backhand beyond Venus Williams.

Williams is wily, though. She battles to 30-40 but a double fault, and then a misguided backhand, hands Mertens a break point. Can she snaffle it? Not at the first attempt, or the second, either, a loopy forehand going long.

That's the opening Venus needs. A step forward and a forehand smash gives her the advantage, and she consolidates it as Mertens slices inti the net. She's a game away from the second round

Murray looks good. The beginning was testing, he wan't quite sure, he was worried about his hip. But he was able to prevail and once the match got going, and he got comfortable with his movement, the Murray of old came back.

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Here we go!" is the cry on Murray Mound as spots of rain start to fall for the first time at these Championships. That's the cue for umbrellas to go up, and rain jackets to go on. It's not exactly tipping down though, so no need to panic.

    *Wiliams 7-6 (9-6) 4-3 Mertens

We're still going on Court One, although there are some important looking people on walkie-talkies as the rain spits down.

Elise Mertens has held her serve in another tight game, the two pushing each other hard, and it was Venus who blinked first as her backhand found the bottom of the net.

    Murray 6-1 6-4 1-0 Bublik

Oh heck, the umpire's out of his chair and Andy Murray is looking to the sky.

    Rain? Really?

The umbrellas are up, the covers are on, the players are marched off. Classic Wimbledon.

A bagel it is to finish!

Ninth seed Kei Nishikori speeds through the last set to win it 6-0 and claim a very comfortable victory over Italian Marco Cecchinato.

It took the Japanese star just 72 minutes. Brutal.

  15. Murray breaks Bublikpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    *Murray 6-1 6-4 1-0 Bublik

Alexander Bublik is enjoying every second of this.

At 15-15, he comes crashing around the net post, and nearly runs into the ball boy. He has time for a high five before getting back into position.

But perhaps he needs to concentrate a bit more?

Murray earns break point after a ninth double fault from Bublik, but he can't take it. To deuce we go.

Double fault number 10 gives the world number one the advantage.

Double fault number 11 hands Murray the break of serve.

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) 4-2 Mertens*

    It's all Venus Williams now.

This is her first match on grass and, despite a tiny slip, she's looked in good form in this second set. She's taken the attack back to Elise Mertens and she's won the last three games to get herself ahead.

    Murray 6-1 6-4 Bublik

    What. A. Forehand.

Bublik thinks he's taken the point by putting his effort deep into the corner but Murray somehow reaches it and it spins cross-court and lands just inside the lines. Amazing.

Murray has the advantage and soon, the second set is his. Crisis averted.

A huge sigh of relief for Andy Murray. We go to deuce.
