    Federer 6-3 7-5 3-1 Struff*

Roger Federer strings Jan-Lennard Struff around like a puppet before putting the German out of his misery with a passing winning.

Struff looks to punch a fiery forehand deep, but it's too strong and drifts just long.

The Swiss polishes off with another nonchalant winner from the baseline.

    Pliskova 3-6 7-6 (7-3) 3-1 Buzarnescu

It had all been going with serve in the deciding set on Court One between Karolina Pliskova and Mihaela Buzarnescu, but it's a huge moment as the Czech breaks the Romanian to take the upper hand.

Buzarnescu takes a ball out of her pocket and whacks it into the net in frustration.

    Oh, no!

Even when Roger Federer doesn't mean to he's playing tricks shot.

A block return clips the service box line as Jan-Lennard Struff sizes it up, and it just barely leaves the ground. Federer breaks.

    Federer 6-3 7-5 1-1 Struff*

Zing! That's a big one from Jan-Lennard Struff, and he sizzles down his ninth ace of the match to save those break points.

Another racquet-ripper gives him advantage, but then the German double faults.

    Break point.

    Federer 6-3 7-5 1-1 Struff*

Federer skips into an overhit Struff drop shot and sizzles a one-handed backhand winner down the line.

The German fails to clear the net from another, and a Federer forehand winner brings up two break points.

Shego: Struff down 0-2. He's got Federer right where he wants him.

Well he has already been in this position twice this week...

    Federer 6-3 7-5 1-1 Struff*

Is there anyone in the game who skittles through service games quicker than Roger Federer? Even when Struff gets strings to it, the Swiss cleans up in seconds rather than minutes.

An average of 96 seconds per game, in fact...

    *Federer 6-3 7-5 0-1 Struff

I've already said this, but Jan-Lennard Struff hasn't played badly today - he's just up against a man with a wand rather than a racquet.

A big hold to kick off the third set for the German, though.

    Federer 6-3 7-5 0-0 Struff*

Just the one needed for Roger Federer, he whips a forehand winner on to the baseline to take a two-set lead.

    *Federer 6-3 6-5 Struff

Right then, Roger Federer to serve for the second set.

He hammers down an ace, rattles down another meaty serve that shakes the strings of Jan-Lennard Struff and that's three set points.

    *Federer 6-3 6-5 Struff

Wonderful from Roger Federer. It's almost as if time slows down as the great Swiss lines up a stroke, picks his spot and delicately coaxes it into position.

    He breaks.

Struff is furious. He prods long to give Federer break point.

    Federer 6-3 5-5 Struff*

Jan-Lennard Struff is stinging down a smattering variety of serves, attacking both sides of Roger Federer's stance and even going for it on his second serves.

Federer somehow ekes over a backhand at full stretch that almost sends the German skidding like a parent stepping on an unexpected escapee from a kids' ball pool.

Federer opens up the court, and despite the best defensive effort of Struff the Swiss skittles down a volleyed winner that delights the crowd.

    Deuce.

    Pliskova 3-6 7-6 (7-3) Buzarnescu

A gutsy fightback from Karolina Pliskova as she takes the set on a tie-break. Mihaela Buzarnescu positively fuming with herself.

    Federer 6-3 5-5 Struff*

Now Roger Federer has to serve to stay in the second set...

He gets off the mark with a delightfully weight volley as he saunters into the net with a strut rather than a sprint.

He ups it a notch on the next point, combining power and precision to rattle down a forehand winner with serious venom.

    A love hold for Federer.

    Pliskova 3-6 6-6 (5-3) Buzarnescu

A brilliant rally. Karolina Pliskova advances to the net but Mihaela Buzarnescu plays too safe and misses the chance to steal a mini break. The Romanian is getting animated on court.

    *Federer 6-3 4-5 Struff

Jan-Lennard Struff is looking strong in this set. Another solid service games after shrugging off that break point chance for Roger Federer a few moments ago.

  19. Postpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Roger, hold.

Barely time to blink as the defending champion rattles through another service game.

    Pliskova 3-6 6-6 (3-0) Buzarnescu

A big moment in this match. Karolina Pliskova takes the first three points in the tie-break. Mihaela Buzarnescu has the chance to serve her way back into this.
