Richard Prior from Colchester (right): “I would put Federer in the top 10 - perhaps not Serena. It’s because of his achievements in the sport - arguably the greatest tennis player. It’s between him and Rafael Nadal.”

The way Roger Federer plays is the right way. Less and less we see people serve and volley, he understands the baseline and net game. He is the complete package. He is 37 in a couple of weeks and looks like a 27-year-old. He takes care of his body.

    Mladenovic 5-7 6-6 (2-7) S. Williams

Serena Williams after her third-round victory over Kristina Mladenovic:

"I am really happy, had an early break in the second, so I will have to go back and see what went wrong with that. But this is only my second serious tournament back.

"I worked really hard and it’s been a long arduous road, I always expected to do the best I can, that is all I can continue to hope for.

"I doesn’t really matter who I face, every opponent is playing their A game. A lot of top players have lost, technically I am not one, though I have the wins of one. I get ready for anyone I play."

TJ: Serena Williams had this match (and the tournament by the looks of the seeded performances) handed to her on a plate.

Andrew: After all the fuss beforehand, it’s just as well Serena Williams didn’t get seeded at Wimbledon this year given the way most of the top seeds are out already!

It was impresive from Serena. Just the ability to find her way out of tricky and difficult situations. She found a different gear.

    That determination is always there.

    Mladenovic 5-7 6-6 (2-5) S. Williams*

Kristina Mladenovic nervously prowls the baseline as she waits for a Hawk-Eye decision, and doesn't get it - second serve, one that zips back past her with interest.

A big, wide serve makes it 5-2 Serena.

    *Mladenovic 5-7 6-6 (1-4) S. Williams

Another cracker of a serve that accelerates away from Mladenovic as Serena Williams takes control of this tie-break.

But she yanks the next point wide as the Frenchwoman gets on the board.

Serena Williams rattles down a mammoth serve to kick things off, and Kristina Mladenovic can only coax a return from the American into the net off her opening serve.

Mladenovic was brave, very aggressive and played with freedom in the last game. No thought of the score, just carried on with her tactics.

    What a shot!

A huge, huge forehand winner from Kristina Mladenovic. It leaves Serena Williams flapping at thin Centre Court air.

    Deuce.

    *Mladenovic 5-7 5-6 S. Williams

Wonderful from Kristina Mladenovic. She saunters in to the net and meets an attempted Serena Williams passing shot to just guide it back over the tape and out of the American's reach.

But then she snatches at a mid-court forehand. This must be excruciating for the Mladenovic box.

Serena rips a return back that the Frenchwoman can't handle.

    Match point.

    *Mladenovic 5-7 5-6 S. Williams

Kristina Mladenovic finds herself in the same position she was moments ago, serving to stay in the championships.

Great point! Serena darts to the net, but a Mladenovic lob has her screeching at full stretch and unable to reach it.

But it's double trouble for the Frenchwoman, she flings down successive double faults as the pressure grows - 30-30.

That's big from the 25-year-old, forcing Williams to draw one into the net. But again she fails to close out! Deuce.
