Two brilliant cross-court winners from Mihaela Buzarnescu puts her love 30-0 up but she overcooks a return from the baseline and then Karolina Pliskova bravely advances to claim a winner at the net. 30-30. Then at deuce, Pliskova produces two big serves when it matters, taking the game with an ace.

Great depth from Jan-Lennard Struff on his backhand side. Roger Federer responds by giving the German the eyes, and wrong-footing him with a slapping forehand.
"Let's go..." says Struff, in response to coming out on top of a battling point and it remains on serve in the second set.

Mihaela Buzarnescu has done well to regain her composure. The 30-year-old's serve is put under pressure by Karolina Pliskova but she manages to squeeze through a service game. Pliskova has to keep her nerve now.

Plenty of zip in the Federer groundstrokes, as the headband-topped defending champion pulls his opponent one way and then the next.
Struff steps into the court on the next point to meet a short ball full on and pound it back with interest.

It is a tall order for Stuff to get back into this match. He needs to impose his will and belief. Federer will feel if you believe you can do it, and feed off that.

Jan-Lennard Struff didn't seem to do too much wrong in that first set, he just met a Roger Federer in determined mood - and you feel the Swiss hasn't even really started yet.
He sees a forehand called long, challenges... but the call was correct.
Federer pops one deep, sprints to the net and meets a volley at shoulder height - Struff can't get enough purchase to help it back.
The defending champion senses another opportunity at 15-30, but finds himself on the end of a Struff zinger.

Ken Skupski and Anna Smith are through to the mixed doubles second round with a 6-1 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 victory over Nicholas Monroe and Oksana Kalashnikova.
They lost a tie-break in the second set after comfortably taking the first but bounced back to win in three.
