Kerber is really getting low into her strokes on the baseline and it is serving her well as she leaves Williams sometimes just standing watching the ball flash past.

And with Williams usually coming off worse the longer a rally goes on, the German must fancy her chances.

The computer graphics show Kerber's forehand from the back was wide. Love those computer graphics - we've come a long way since the ZX Spectrum.

    15-30.

    Kerber battles back and holds.

Williams is definitely second best at the moment, in every aspect.

Those double faults were expensive Mrs.Williams.

Is this a step too far for the great American?

Another error from Williams at the net - that was an easy volley. Hmmm...

    Then a double fault.

Love 30. No love from Williams.

It gets worse - another double fault. No prizes for double doubles.

Williams saves one with an overhead.

    And there's more...

Excellent work from Kerber - dictating from the middle of the back of the court to move Williams about from left to right.

    30-0.

Another superb backhand from wide right brings up game point.

Williams pulls a point back but Kerber holds.

    A relief for the German.

We assume because Serena Williams has 23 Grand Slam titles and seven of them here that she's not going to be nervous. But of course she will be.

An easy volley here at the net. Noooooooo!

    Williams inexplicably finds the netting.

However, the 36-year-old finally manages to get over the line at the second time of asking.

Will she now be able to break Kerber?

    Cowabunga!

    Or will she?

Kerbs is on top here. Coming in mid-court to punch away anything Williams fires back at her.

That was an easy hold to 15 for the 11th seed.

Williams positively skipped her way to the baseline to start the warm-up. Will she keep that movement up in the match? Kerber looks calm and not daunted by the prospect of facing the overwhelming favourite.
