This time the net cord does not come to Djokovic's aid as it spits back his volley on to his side of the court.

    Hold.

    Kyrgios/Krawczyk v Brady/Daniell

He's had to leave the locals in the Dog & Fox behind, because Nick Kyrgios has a mixed doubles match to play...

The fiery Aussie, who went out of the men's singles in a thriller against Rafael Nadal yesterday, is out on court 18 alongside Desirae Krawczyk.

They face Jennifer Brady and Marcus Daniell in the first round.

We still don't know where Andy Murray and Serena Williams will make their exciting appearance in the mixed doubles - although I'll be very surprised if it isn't on Centre.

That means Loreto Maldonado and Jacob Pedersen, who live in Copenhagen but are over here in London on holiday, might be disappointed.

They have been queuing since 5:30am and bagged resale tickets for Court One a little earlier.

"We hope we get to see Andy and Serena but we don't think they are going to play here. Because there is another men's match after Djokovic's match - so we think it will go on too long.

"At least we can watch Novak though so it's not all bad!"

  7. Gauff holdspublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 5 July 2019

    Gauff 3-2 Hercog*

Gauff kicks things off with a double fault - not ideal.

She then hits the ball into the net and goes 15-30 down. The crowd is very subdued. They did not come here to see the fairytale ended.

The masses pick up a bit as Hercog hits two forehands wide and one into the net to give Gauff the hold.

    Djokovic 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 0-0 Hurkacz*

30-15 after another long rally but Djoko is really making his opponent work hard for points on his serve.

30-30 as the defending champ goes wide with a backhand.

In case there was any doubt about who this crowd want to win...

Gauff’s shot bounces off the net and it seems like the ball decides in slow motion which side it wants to land. It goes over and fans cheer as if it was a well-placed winner on match point.

It will take Coco a few minutes to get used to that kick serve from Hercog, which most women don't have. Hercog is working hard and has never had this opportunity before, she'll be more nervous than Coco.

  12. Hercog holdspublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 5 July 2019

    *Gauff 2-2 Hercog

The Centre Court crowd is team Coco and so is the net chord. Gauff's forehand catches the top of it and drops down on the other side. 15-15.

But Hercog is undisturbed as she powers through the next couple of points and finishes the game off with a nice kick serve.

  13. 'Painfully easy'published at 17:41 British Summer Time 5 July 2019

    Djokovic 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 Hurkacz

    John McEnroe

It's painfully easy from Hurkacz's point of view, putting up no resistance at all.

Unfortunate, but that's often what happens.

  14. Game and third set Djokovicpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 5 July 2019

    Djokovic 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 Hurkacz*

Djokovic has this uncanny knack of not appearing to have played that well but still win.

He hits a ninth ace to bring up two set points.

Which he takes at the first time of asking.

The Serb is storming through this set. Has Hurkacz’s moment gone?

When Hurkacz gets the opportunity to look at a Djokovic second serve I just wish he'd stand up and be aggressive and look to stamp his authority on the rally early.
