There couldn't be a more difficult day to make your debut on Centre Court.

The Royal Box is absolutely packed with superstars.

    Williams 6-3 1-2 Gorges

Still no way into the Serena serve. She holds to love, again.

Gorges responds with a couple of big ones and does the same. That's four aces apiece now.

  3. Around the groundspublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

Fabio Fognini and Tennys Sandgren have both come under pressure on serve in the second set. A total of eight break points have come and gone uncoverted so far. We are on serve at 3-3 after Sangren took the opener.

Belgium's Elise Mertens is a break and 5-3 up on China's Qiang Wang in the deciding set of their match.

Over the way, Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff and Kazkahstan's Mikhail Kukushkin have got under way, the winner of that one plays Kei Nishikori in the fourth round.

    Barty 6-1 1-0 Dart*

Dart knows she has to attack to get on top of Barty, but she hasn't quite found her range yet on Centre as she sends a forehand long.

The errors continue and an awful sliced backhand drifts towards the middle of the net to hand Barty another break.

    This is tough to watch.

  5. Postpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Murray/Herbert 3-2 Mektic/Skugor*

Brief scare, but Pierre-Hugues Herbert comes up trumps with a little serve and volley remedy.

The Frenchman darts into the net, twice volleys returns and then cracks a double-backhand winner between the Croatian pair after it skips up off the net.

"Don't worry Andy, I've got this..." I imagine he's thinking.

    Barty 6-1 Dart

    15-0.

    30-0.

    Ace.

    40-0.

Stop. Let's play Dart. The Brit halts the run by sending a forehand winner down the line.

Sadly for her Barty follows that with an ace.

    That took 25 minutes.

Franko Skugor is a hulking figure of a bloke. The sort who looks like he could carry several logs on his back through a slurry terrain without breaking sweat.

But he's struggling here on serve, rarely thumping down a delivery with as much pace as he looks like he should be.

After eight deuces, and almost 15 minutes, the Croatians get over the line...

  8. Mektic & Skugor holdpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Murray/Herbert 2-2 Mektic/Skugor

Finally, after a marathon game, the Croatian pair hold.

  9. Gorges is not going awaypublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Williams 6-3 0-1 Gorges

74% of Serena's first serves are going in - that's a big reason why Gorges is not getting much joy in this match.

In contrast, only 59% of the German's first deliveries are landing. They are big enough to do some damage when they do go in, but not enough of them are.

Gorges is having to fight harder to hold, but she is still fighting on and holds at the start of the second set. "She is not going away," is Tracy Austin's verdict in the commentary box.

A mini-roar goes around Centre as Barty fires wide to hand Dart the game.

  11. Saturday's early winnerspublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

Alison Riske, Carla Suarez Navarro, Sam Querrey, Kei Nishikori and Petra Kvitova are among the names to have already secured their place in the second week at Wimbledon on Saturday.

Now, who else can join them?

    Barty 5-0 Dart*

Boom! The comeback starts now as Dart launches a forehand with plenty of top that Barty barely moves for.

She then moves to 40-15 as Barty finds the net with a forehand.

    Can she?

  14. 'Dart has to get something'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Barty 5-0 Dart*

The game style of Barty is not helping Dart.

They've never played against each other before and the style doesn't suit Harriet - who would love the ball to be coming in to her a little bit more and with some pace.

Getting a game is going to be so important. She just has to get something here.

    Barty 5-0 Dart*

Barty's party has already started, actually it's now 1am and someone's playing the Best of the 80s kicking off with Frankie's Relax.

In other words, Barty is one game from taking the first set and we've only played 20 minutes.

  16. Postpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Murray/Herbert 2-1 Mektic/Skugor*

Nikola Mektic completely mishits a smash but Andy Murray can't leap high enough to engineer a return, framing one straight into the SW19 sky. A SIXTH deuce in this service game, as we edge towards the 10-minute mark.

  17. Game and first set Williamspublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Williams 6-3 0-0 Gorges

A glimmer of hope for Gorges after two mis-hit Williams forehands leave her at 30-30. She saves a couple of set-points too, but that's as close as she gets to a break-back with a looping cross-court winner sealing it for the seven-time champion.

"That was an impressive first set. For me that really changes my mind about the possibility of Serena winning this title," says Tracy Austin.

Yep, a player many of us hadn't heard much about a week ago....

    *Barty 4-0 Dart

    Oh dear Harriet!

Dart goes long with a double-handed backhand from the baseline.

It's a double break for the world number one.

    Barty 3-0 Dart*

Centre then lets out a big cheer as Barty strikes the ball into the net after she fails to deal with a Dart lob.

    30-30.

    40-30.

But once again Barty is as stubborn as a cranberry juice stain on white linen. She takes the game to deuce.
