As Sue Barker announced the guests in the Royal Box, the biggest cheer was undoubtedly for the group of Olympians that included Sir Mo Farah and Sir Chris Hoy.

A huge cheer was also reserved for England Netball captain Ama Agbeze, who stood up on her own, while Rod Laver - 50 years on since he won the calendar Grand Slam - received a standing ovation.

"Roll up, roll up, get a luvvly bunch for a paaaaand!"

Murray's coach Jamie Delgado and fitness man Matt Little, like a pair of market traders, arrive armed with several bananas.

Not sure they will be throwing them down to Murray for mid-match snacks.

    Williams 2-1 Gorges

Serena is serving very well when she needs to, going down the middle with two huge deliveries to get herself out of a spot of bother at 30-all. Both are too hot for Gorges to handle, and we are still on serve.

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC TV

Barty is a very mature young woman. What I love about her - we often have champions who bomb out in the next tournament - but she won in Birmingham even with that pressure.

She was asked afterwards what has changed and she said "nothing". That is why, maybe it isn't just another game, but she just wants to get back to work.

  8. Gorges has to battle backpublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Williams 1-1 Gorges

Williams got off to a slow start in her last match, and had to come back from a set down to beat teenage qualifier Kaja Juvan.

The opposite is the case today, however, and she's straight on the attack against the Gorges serve - which is quite a weapon in itself - to bring up three break-points at 0-40.

An early blow by Serena? No. Gorges recovers, and in some style, by going for broke with some big shots that find the corners. She holds, eventually.

"What a comeback by Gorges, but Serena is already looking a lot sharper than she did in the first two rounds," says BBC commentator Tracy Austin.

  9. What about Barty's form?published at 13:15 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Barty v Dart

So, the Australian has won 14 straight matches which included victory in Paris for her first Slam title followed by another tournament win in Birmingham that fired her to the top of the world rankings.

So in answer to the question, it's very good.

    Murray/Herbert v Mektic/Skugor

Almost time to get under way in this one. Both pairs begin limbering up on court two, while Andy Murray digs around in his bag to find his racquet of choice.

The Murray clan have arrived. Andy's wife Kim wandering down to her seat first, mum Judy turning up shortly after.

No tough choice for the Murray matriarch today. You may remember she was watching oldest son Jamie's match on Wednesday, instead of Andy's Wimbledon comeback.

"He's always been the favourite," Andy joked dryly...

  13. Williams looking for repeat resultpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Williams 0-0 Gorges

This is the fifth time these two have met, and Gorges is yet to win a set let alone a match.

Their last meeting came at SW19 last year when Serena won 6-2 6-4 in the semi-finals. Can the German change the script this time?

She has got off to a decent enough start, attacking Serena's second serve to pick up two early points and get to 30-all.

  15. Dart over to Centre Court nowpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Barty v Dart

Here's Harriet Dart about her task ahead: "My next match is a big match. There's no question about it.

"I'm playing the best player in the world at the moment and whose form has been unbelievable. It's just a great opportunity for me to see where my tennis is at."

By the way Sue Barker is currently doing top-notch MCing as she introduces the sports stars in attendance at Centre Court. No pressure Harriet.

They're not quite rushing in, but court two is filling up quite nicely as we await Andy Murray's arrival.

The click of photographers' cameras at the back of the court, looking down to the walkway below suggests the Briton and his partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert are breezing down.

  17. Still to come...published at 13:04 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

It's not a bad day to hold a Centre Court ticket, as both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer take to the stage.

After coming through a fiery encounter with Nick Kyrgios, Nadal looks to continue his charge against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga following the conclusion of Barty v Dart.

Eight-time champion Federer then enters the arena, with Lucas Pouille his third round opponent.

Serena Williams, first up on Court One, is also scheduled to play in the mixed doubles alongside Britain's Andy Murray.

But Murray too must find time to complete another match, alongside men's doubles partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

    Williams v Gorges

Seven-time champion Serena Williams is about to get under way on Court One against Germany's Julia Gorges.

Serena, who is also due to start her mixed doubles campaign with Andy Murray later today, won the coin toss and has elected to serve.

  19. 'A stepping stone for Murray'published at 13:02 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

Andy Murray had the tennis world crying at the Australian Open.

I think even he didn't know what would eventually happen.

The fact he isn't in pain - this is all a bonus - and it's now hopefully a great stepping stone back to singles tennis.

    Murray/Herbert v Mektic/Skugor

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

After a slow start, Murray and Herbert grew as a partnership during their opening win. And, on the evidence here, they certainly look to be forging a good understanding.

Herbert sits out as Murray practises some first-serve returns belted down by coach Jamie Delgado, before the Scot makes a swift exit out of the back door at Aorangi.
