Rather different atmosphere on Ashe to what it was little over 12 hours ago.

Raucous roars from a capacity near 24,000 crowd during Rafa Nadal's win over Marin Cilic have been replaced by a more gentle applause in a slow-filling arena.

As you walk into the South Gate of the Billie Jean King Tennis Centre, you are immediately greeted by the 'Court of Champions', a curved stone wall fixed with bronze sheets inscribed with the names of former champions.

This is where Johanna Konta and Elina Svitolina are hoping to see their names etched in 12 months time.

The pair are among seven of the eight women's quarter-finalists who have never won a Grand Slam.

Think you can guess which one has more than a few in her trophy cabinet...

A very impressive first game from Johanna Konta.

She'll be happy with that start.

A good hold to 30 from Konta, winning it with a dash to the net and a sweeping forehand into the corner that leaves Svitolina with no chance. No signs of any early nerves from the Briton.

A fine backhand rally, with both players rooted on the baseline before the Briton dumps it into the net. 30-30, and an early half chance for the Ukrainian.

Even if Johanna Konta goes out today, we will still have British representation (of sorts) in the women's semi-finals.

Elina Svitolina's coach Andy Bettles is an Englishman, who helped the Ukrainian win the WTA Tour Finals last year and reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Bettles is looking relaxed as he sits alongside Gael Monfils - Svitolina's boyfriend and fellow US Open quarter-finalist - in her player's box.

We start off with the Arthur Ashe roof open, with half of the court covered in shadows with the other half in bright sunlight. A large numbers of seats are vacant as well.

Here we go, Konta to get us going.

  14. 'Jo is a very tough opponent'published at 17:12 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

Elina Svitolina reached her first major semi-final at Wimbledon in July and won the WTA Finals title last year.

The Ukrainian has not dropped a set on the way to the last eight, with seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams and 2017 runner-up Madison Keys among her scalps.

"Wimbledon helped me because the injuries that I had a little bit took away my confidence physically," said Svitolina, who struggled with a knee problem earlier in the year.

"Playing well there gave me a little bit of a push and confidence on my footwork and I would say in general it was an amazing run for me.

"Jo is a very tough opponent. She strikes the ball very good, and I have to react very quickly with my feet."

  15. 'Really looking forward to it'published at 17:11 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

Johanna Konta has reached the quarter-finals in three successive majors, but the US Open is the only Slam where she has never got down to the final four.

"I'm lucky to have played on all the Grand Slam centre courts and it is another opportunity to play on one," she said.

"Ashe is a big court, it is a bit quicker than the other courts and I'm really looking forward to it.

"It is a tremendous achievement and I'm looking forward to trying to go one, two, three steps further."

A good celebrity spot early on, with actor Tom Hiddleston again cheering on Konta, just as he did earlier in the tournament.
