He's had plenty of chance to work on his drop shot and that was his first really clean one. Is he starting to feel more comfortable out there and play his real game?

At 15-0 up, Medvedev sends an ace down the T. No call from the line judge but Nadal challenges it, and Hawk Eye proves he was right to do so. Very much out.

A magical sliced drop shot bounces in and then spins away from Nadal's racquet and out to bring up 40-15 and then he holds with a serve-and-volley.

A delightful game from Daniil Medvedev.

He couldn't finish it off. It's one of the trickiest shots to control. Very, very tough and easy to lose control of it.

A lengthy rally ends as Nadal makes the wrong choice with his final shot, swinging at it and sending it wide.

Advantage Medvedev and third break point.

A rally begins and a sliding Medvedev goes for the cross-court winner but Nadal is there at the net to meet it and save the break point.

    He fights back to deuce.

A little pump of the fist as Nadal smashes down a winner for 30-0, his first serve a little off in this game though.

Medvedev pulls a point back but Nadal gets on top of the next rally, flicking home at the net. A few more lengthy rallies creeping in now as both begin to tire.

    Another overhead volley to hold.
