    Djokovic 7-5 4-1 Medvedev*

Medvedev tonks a winner off a Djokovic second serve, but it's so, so good from Djokovic.

Medvedev clatters his racquet on the floor after not putting away a Djokovic smash, and the Serb widens the gap with another big ace.

    *Djokovic 7-5 3-1 Medvedev

Another wild, wild shot from Daniil Medvedev, and Novak Djokovic marches off with another break to his name.

Three games in a row for the world number one. Deja vu?

    Djokovic 7-5 2-1 Medvedev*

The distraction merely allows Medvedev to crack an ace down the T.

That is another poor miss on the forehand, though, and Djokovic has break point.

    Oops, hello.

The players get drawn into a rally and then there's someone constantly shouting out in the crowd. The umpire brings it to a close, Djokovic gives the woman a frankly terrifying look, and they replay the point.

Djokovic gets hold of a Medvedev second serve and ends up with his head in his hands as he larrups it out of bounds.

  6. 'Djokovic on a mission for Slam number 18'published at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

A great response from Djokovic, he's got his swagger back. He's such a clean ball striker, a meticulous planner, utterly professional and he looks like he's on a mission.

He desperately wants this 18th Grand Slam title - last year he let a couple of chances slip. It was quite humiliating for him in New York when he was turfed out for hitting a line judge with a ball and then he played quite a lame French Open final against Nadal.

2020 was a tumultuous year overall, and very emotional, so this is him getting right back at it.

    Djokovic 7-5 2-1 Medvedev*

Medvedev sends a lazy backhand long to give Djokovic game point and after a ridiculously long rally, the Russian coughs up the error.

Two games in a row for Djokovic.

    *Djokovic 7-5 1-1 Medvedev

That is a rather bad miss on an easy forehand from Daniil Medvedev.

    30-30.

    *Djokovic 7-5 1-1 Medvedev

Not even Medvedev, from his position out wide, can get this latest Djokovic drop shot back.

I, truly, have no idea how these two are returning some of these shots. They're stretching around like they've got limbs made of elastic and then Medvedev just ups the pace, drawing the error out of Djokovic.

    15-30.

James Stevenson: The first and, I assume, last time a grand slam final will be held on my birthday. Therefore it’s only fair if the player I want to win, wins. Come on Medvedev!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES! Hope, like Daniil, you've got five birthday cakes waiting to be demolished.

That's a very unusual drop of focus from Djokovic, something definitely distracted him and we don't know how strong he is feeling.

On the other side it shows you how strong Medvedev is.

    Djokovic 7-5 0-1 Medvedev*

Ouch. Daniil Medvedev double faults to start his latest service game.

He follows it with a big first serve out wide and then profits from another Djokovic drop shot, chasing it down, meeting Djokovic's follow-up volley and then smashing away a winner.

    30-15.

Backhand meets backhand before Medvedev goes flat with the forehand - and Djokovic nets!

That's one way to put the disappoinment of the first set behind him.

Djokovic gives the umpire a filthy look as a let is called on his serve.

Nice. A short, spinny return from Djokovic, and Medvedev comes darting forward to slap a winner away.

Medvedev lets his 15-30 lead slip with a long forehand.

  18. 'Blow for Medvedev'published at 09:32 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think we're all exhausted after that. It was so intriguing and it was very intense.

It is mental blow for Medvedev. He had done so well to back into the set and looked to be making headway.

I thought Djokovic was starting to get uncomfortable but he had lots of options at his disposal and he managed to use them.

  20. 'Might be questions if Djokovic can go long'published at 09:29 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Russell Fuller
BBC tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

Djokovic has been on court for 16 hours and 45 minutes in the tournament - that is four-and-a-half hours more than Medvedev.

And he has dropped five sets, the most he has ever done on the way to the final.

If Medvedev gets on top there will be serious questions about whether Djokovic can stay with him.
