    *Djokovic 3-3 Medvedev

Again, Djokovic tries the drop shot and this time Medvedev chases it down and spears a backhand cross-court for a winner.

The Serb misses a swipe down the line and Medvedev picks a wonderful time to register a love hold of his own.

    Djokovic 3-2 Medvedev*

There was a truly hall of fame Djokosmash in that last game, by the way. It's never been a strong shot of his.

  3. Medvedev breaks backpublished at 09:03 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Djokovic 3-2 Medvedev*

    I mean...

Daniil Medvedev is so far behind the baseline he's almost in the crowd, having to stretch left and right just to stay into the rally. A lob somehow lands in behind Djokovic, who runs around, aims a forehand - and misses it by a yard.

    Game on.

  4. Postpublished at 09:03 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    *Djokovic 3-1 Medvedev

    Wow!

A ridiculously long rally, Medvedev first on the back foot before he starts to dictate the rally and it's Djokovic who blinks first, trying a drop shot that doesn't clear the net.

Two break back points for Medvedev...

    *Djokovic 3-1 Medvedev

Yeah, don't expect many short rallies between this pair...

Djokovic slices a backhand just long and then, for the first time in the match, finds himself behind as he plonks an easy forehand into the net tape.

Joel Newnham: Medvedev stay cool, don't let this early lead bother you.

Kevin Tanner: Djokovic simply brilliant, this could be over by 11am.

Brave call Kev. I wouldn't be banking on catching the end of Sunday Brunch just yet.

    *Djokovic 3-1 Medvedev

That should do the fourth seed some good!

He holds as an off-balance Djokovic pushes a shot just - and I mean just - long.

    Djokovic 3-0 Medvedev*

Djokovic mullers a second serve from Medvedev, cracking it down the line for a winner, before Medvedev gets going with an ace of his own.

Make that two aces in a row, Medvedev getting himself to 40-15, before he shanks a forehand over the baseline.

    Hmm.

That was a very athletic and showbizzy leap into the air and slam dunk winner from Djokovic. He's feeling good.

  10. Djokovic holds to lovepublished at 08:55 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Djokovic 3-0 Medvedev*

    No messing around from Djokovic.

An ace out wide wraps up a very, very quick hold to love.

  11. 'Djokovic mentally and physically dialled in'published at 08:54 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

Wow, what a start from Djokovic. He is mentally and physically dialled in at the start of this match. That's a big blow for Medvedev.

Daniil Medvedev wasn't broken in the first two sets against Stefanos Tsitsipas...

  13. 'Djokovic in decent physical condition'published at 08:53 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Leon Smith
GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Novak Djokovic looks very calm. Game face is on. That's all the experience he has and great memories of this court.

I think the injury has been an interesting part of his journey over the past fortnight. Usually he has lots left in the tank but he has been pushed.

However, he managed to get to the business end of the tournament in decent physical condition which it didn't look like he would a few rounds ago.

Better serving from Medvedev, and there's no returning a rocket of a forehand down the line.

    30-40.

    Djokovic 1-0 Medvedev*

That's a bad miss from Daniil Medvedev, and he's facing two break points.

  17. 'Medvedev serves big like Isner'published at 08:52 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

Medvedev's serve is huge. Tsitsipas said it was like playing John Isner.

He's unpredictable, very smart, gritty, determined, and he's like steel down the other end.

  18. Postpublished at 08:52 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2021

    Djokovic 1-0 Medvedev*

Novak Djokovic does plenty of stretching and fetching behind the baseline before Daniil Medvedev fires a winner past him to get the first point on his serve.

Hmm. A bit too much on a couple of forehands from Medvedev, though, and he's quickly 15-30 down.

    Djokovic 1-0 Medvedev*

Novak Djokovic races to 40-0 but Daniil Medvedev gets on the board as Djokovic snatches a backhand into the top of the net.

Not to worry for Djokovic, though, as he cracks down a serve out wide that Medvedev can't return.
