The clay-court season which started with such promise in Monte Carlo has ended with more bitter disappointment at Roland Garros.

For once, Dan Evans losing at Roland Garros does come as a surprise, given how well he's played in the clay-court season.

    Kecmanovic 1-6 6-3 6-3 6-4 Evans

Huge disappointment for Dan Evans, who is unable end his wait for a second-round appearance at Roland Garros.

It was a really impressive turnaround by the 21-year-old Miomir Kecmanovic.

He'll face either Corentin Moutet or Laslo Dere in the next round.

Evans saves it, and produces an ace to give himself advantage.

But Kecmanovic takes control of the rally before bringing things back to deuce with a drop shot.

    Kecmanovic 1-6 6-3 6-3 5-4 Evans*

Is the occasion getting to Kecmanovic?

Nope. Evans works the Serb around the court before picking out a backhand winner for 30-0, but Kecmanovic battles back admirably.

    Match point.

    Russell Fuller
BBC tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

Very tight from Kecmanovic, and good returning from Evans, and he knows where his corner of support is seated.

He celebrates with them and he's still in this match. We're back on serve.

    Kecmanovic 1-6 6-3 6-3 5-2 Evans*

This will hurt Evans if he does go out here. He's shown some great form so far in 2021 and would have really fancied his chances today.

The 21-year-old Kecmanovic, who has lost his last four matches, has been superb since a poor opening first set.

Kecmanovic overpowers Evans from the baseline for a 40-30 lead, before coolly seeing out his service game and move within one game of an excellent victory.

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

There's a lot going on here from Dan, at one point the racquet's gone, complaining about strings.
