    Nadal 6-3 6-3 6-3 Norrie

That wraps up our live text coverage from Roland Garros for today - but we will have Radio 5 Live Sports Extra commentary on this page from 20:00 BST when Roger Federer takes on Dominik Koepfer, so come back then.

Federer, of course, is bidding for only a second French Open title but also to stop Rafael Nadal passing him on the all-time Grand Slam wins list. They are level on 20 and judging by today's display Federer - and anyone else for that matter - has a job on his hands.

While Britain's Cameron Norrie came out with plenty of credit for a gutsy display, Nadal once again proved why he is the 'King of Clay'.

Thanks for joining us as always - we will be back tomorrow (Sunday) with more live text commentary as the last-16 matches in the men's and women's draws begin, with Serena Williams among those in action.

  2. Mixed bag for Britspublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

It's been a mixed day for the Brits at Roland Garros.

As we've seen, British involvement in the singles draws was ended with Cameron Norrie's defeat by Rafael Nadal.

Jamie Murray also exited the men's doubles as he and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares lost 6-3 3-6 6-3 to Germany's Kevin Krawietz and Romania's Horia Tecau.

But there was joy for Alfie Hewett, who saved three match points to book his place in the men's wheelchair final.

  3. Svitolina out - but Kenin & Swiatek throughpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

There has been another shock in the women's draw today with fifth seed Elina Svitolina stunned by Barbora Krejcikova.

Fourth seed Sofia Kenin and defending champion Iga Swiatek, however, survived scares in their matches.

Coco Gauff and Jennifer Brady meet in an intriguing all-American affair on Court Suzanne-Lenglen next.

You can read a round-up of the women's action here.

  4. Happenings elsewherepublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

Next up for Rafael Nadal is Italian 18th seed Jannik Sinner who booked his place in the last 16 by beating Sweden's Mikael Ymer in straight sets.

Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff has also progressed on Saturday afternoon, ending the run of Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz, and he will next face Argentina's Diego Schwartzman.

  5. 'Difficult for every player'published at 17:27 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 6-3 6-3 Norrie

More from Rafa Nadal: "It is true that for the last year and a half it has been difficult for every player, although I didn't play so much.

"Those who have been travelling week after week without the chance to have family and full team with them is very tough. They have been challenging conditions.

"For me it is very important to have the team and family behind me, because of them I am what I am today. I'm happy to have crowds, that is so important for us."

  6. 'I found a way to go through'published at 17:23 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 6-3 6-3 Norrie

Rafael Nadal, speaking in his on-court interview: "I really enjoying playing on Lenglen. In truth I don't mind if it is here or Chatrier - I love them all.

"Cam is playing the best season of his career and winning plenty of matches. But I found a way to go through and that is the most important thing for me. I was able to win in straight sets and that was important for me."

Right, let's get some reaction from the great man himself...

You can tell from the reaction at the end of the match how hard Rafael Nadal had to work, he's really pumped up with that win. Nadal is able to find that extra gear every single time at Roland Garros.

But Cameron Norrie can take a lot of positives from today, he played some fantastic tennis and you can't fault his attitude.

Hopefully next time he is in a Grand Slam third round it is not against Rafael Nadal. He has the ability and mindset to push on in the men's game.

  9. 'King of Clay' to become king, period?published at 17:18 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

Nadal, of course, is chasing history this week - after years of chasing Roger Federer.

The Spaniard could overtake his great rival for the all-time record for most Grand Slam men's singles titles - with the pair level on 20 each.

It's a race Nadal has never led but he has slowly closed the gap year by year over the past decade, helped by his record 13 Roland Garros triumphs.

The pair could meet in the semi-finals - although Federer would have to get past Novak Djokovic first if matches go according to seed.

    Nadal 6-3 6-3 6-3 Norrie

It's been a fine clay court season for Cameron Norrie, nonetheless, after he reached ATP Tour finals in Portugal and Lyon as well as the third round here.

Rafael Nadal, of course, has slightly loftier goals on his mind...

    Laura Robson is absolutely right.

The straight-set nature of that win doesn't quite do justice to the problems that Cameron Norrie caused the legendary Spaniard.

The Brit was unable to take advantage of those big chances in the second set, however, when he broke Nadal twice, only to surrender his own serve four times in return.

    And that's that.

A Rafa Nadal forehand leaves Cameron Norrie flat-footed and the 13-time French Open champion is through to the fourth round.

He will know he has been in a battle though as Norrie did himself plenty of credit.
