    Nadal 6-3 6-3 1-0 Norrie*

A good start to this service game from Cameron Norrie who, remember, was broken three successive times at the end of that second set. 30-15.

A Nadal backhand goes wide and it's 40-15. Norrie could do with a routine hold.

  2. Rafa 'in a league of his own'published at 16:33 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Rafa Nadal was pushed really hard by Cam Norrie but he still had enough in the tank to win that set comfortably.

If you're Norrie you have to look at that winning set point and just say 'that is too good and there is nothing I could have done to get back into the rally'.

It is incredible when Rafa is on the run and able to hit shots like that. He is in a league of his own.

    Nadal 6-3 6-3 1-0 Norrie

Admirable effort from Cameron Norrie in this opening game of the third set.

He gets back two smashes from Rafa Nadal but the second loops just long. 40-30.

Rafa then has Cam running from corner to corner before seeing him off with a forehand across the court.

  4. Game and second setpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 6-3 Norrie

    What a shot from Nadal.

A cross-court backhand that only he can produce.

Cameron Norrie looked certain to save a second set point but Rafa pulls out a shot from the gods.

Norrie has a mountain to climb now.

  5. 'Crowd loving Norrie'published at 16:24 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

The crowd have been loving Cam Norrie, they love an underdog and he is giving them a lot to go with. He's been trying everything to get back in this second set.

  6. Set point for Nadal - savedpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 5-3 Norrie*

A brilliant backhand down the line brings up set point but a fantastic point from Norrie ends with a big smash to take it to deuce.

    Nadal 6-3 5-3 Norrie*

A mixed bag from Cam Norrie as a couple of solid points force Nadal into errors into the net - but the Brit missed a fairly simple forehand in between.

Then Norrie fluffs one into the net from the baseline. 30-30.

  9. Postpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 5-3 Norrie*

Nadal wins four straight points from 0-15 to vanquish any Norrie hopes of a break back.

  10. Swiatek leads after tie-breakpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Kontaveit 6-7 (4-7) Swiatek

Swiatek has come through that tie-break in that way champions find a way of doing - which of course she is.

Now she's fought back and settled down, there's a good chance she will keep the momentum going.

The 20-year-old Pole was in great form coming into Roland Garros, winning the Italian Open last month, and had until now not really been tested in Paris.

    *Nadal 6-3 4-3 Norrie

I mean credit to Cameron Norrie here - he's still chasing absolutely everything.

His persistence pays off in the opening rally of this game as Rafa Nadal hits the net.

But a forehand brushes the line as the Spaniard replies sublimely. 15-15.

  12. Seed sorrows go on in women's drawpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

The seeds just keep falling over in the women's draw.

Elina Svitolina became the seventh top-10 seed to be knocked out in the opening week as she was demolished 6-3 6-2 by the mightily impressive Barbora Krejcikova.

American Sloane Stephens, the 2018 runner-up here in Paris, advanced to the fourth round by upsetting 18th seed Karolina Muchova, of the Czech Republic, 6-3 7-5.

Fourth seed and last year's runner-up Sofia Kenin avoided joining the elite casualty list as she came from a set down to beat fellow American Jessica Pagula 4-6 6-1 6-4.

Let's get some more updates from the women's draw...

  14. Nadal breaks againpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 4-3 Norrie

Break point for Nadal after a superbly disguised cross-court forehand winner...

And Cam Norrie is long from the baseline. Rafa wins three games on the spin to lead 4-3 from 3-1 down.

  15. 'Doing all the right things'published at 16:13 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Norrie has got to stick with it here. It was unfortunate he could not consolidate the break but he is doing all the right things, being aggressive and creating opportunities for himself.

  16. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 3-3 Norrie*

A big game for Cameron Norrie now, can he hold after letting slip a 3-1 lead?

Nadal though is pulling out the big shots now - a fantastic cross-court forehand and a cheeky lob putting the Spaniard 15-30 up.

Big serve from the Brit and it's 30-30.

  17. Postpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 3-3 Norrie

Rafa Nadal knows he's in a battle here.

But this is a more routine service game as he keeps Cameron Norrie pinned back for the majority of it.

And a sumptuous winner seals a level set, Nadal inventing angles to produce a cross-court forehand that appeared mathematically impossible.

  18. Swiatek into first-set tie-breakpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Kontaveit 6-6 Swiatek

Nadal is not the only defending champion in action right now, with Iga Swiatek playing over on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The Pole, 20, got off to a poor start when she lost her opening service game but has since fought back and she’s into a first-set tie-break against Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit.

We’ve lost seven of the top 10 women already here…can Swiatek avoid being another?

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Nadal is giving a few people the side-eye... he thinks he was disturbed by someone in the crowd when he lost the break point at 40-15.

  20. Nadal breaks backpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 2-3 Norrie

    Four successive breaks of serve.

A big opportunity missed for Cameron Norrie surely.

The previous break-back owed much to Nadal's aggression but the Brit made a couple of errors in the second.
