  1. Game and first set - Nadalpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 6-3 Norrie

An ace brings Nadal to set point.

And Cam Norrie can only loop the next return well out.

There was some good play from the British number two in that set but that one break of serve made all the difference.

Norrie played well and it must be difficult not to get demoralised by that - has he got another level to go up to?

The court coverage from these two is ridiculous at the moment!

    *Nadal 5-3 Norrie

Not when Rafa hits a backhand down the line like that one.

A return into the net and it's 30-0.

    Nadal 5-3 Norrie

A big serve and a Nadal-esque drop shot to follow it up from Norrie as he holds.

That's the least he deserves - a 6-2 scoreline would not have been reflective.

    Now, can he break back?

    Nadal 5-2 Norrie*

Cam Norrie will at least hope to make Rafa Nadal serve out the set.

And he starts his next service game well, 30-0 up after really battling for the second point, although Nadal did flunk a volley into the net.

Nadal hits the next one long too.

  6. 'Pretty standard put-away'published at 15:35 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Laura Robson
    Former British number one

Norrie is still thinking about that last forehand he missed to give Nadal the break, it was a pretty standard put-away forehand which he overcooked.

When your opponent is moving so well, the court feels small and you try to overhit. It is difficult to know where to hit it against Rafa on any surface, never mind the one where he is so successful.

    Nadal 5-2 Norrie

Even when the Brit is able to assert some control in a rally, Rafa Nadal finds a way to grab it back.

You want to hit a big forehand? I'll hit one bigger. He smashes a lovely forehand around the net post and that's 5-2.

    *Nadal 4-2 Norrie

Cameron Norrie is playing virtually every point on Rafa Nadal's serve from about three feet behind the baseline.

And there's nothing he can do about it. Nadal is just hammering him back.

A long forehand from the Spaniard brings it back to 40-15.

  9. Nadal breakspublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 4-2 Norrie

Cam Norrie should have got that back to deuce but he dumps a short Nadal return into the net.

That's arguably his first bad miss, six games in.

But it came at a crucial point.

Norrie is having to work so hard to win points. The level of Rafa has been so strong since that 0-30 in the first game. It is difficult for Cam because he is not as naturally aggressive as he needs to be. I think he needs to force himself inside the baseline here.

  11. Break points for Nadalpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 3-2 Norrie*

Another long rally and Cam Norrie turns up the aggression factor a notch too high, sending a forehand wide.

Nadal sends the next return into the net. 15-40. And then a forehand wide. 30-40.

It would be big if Norrie can hold here.

Cam gives that net cord a long hard look. He knows that was a good opportunity.

  13. Postpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 3-2 Norrie*

    Oh Rafa, stop it.

Nadal brings Cam Norrie into the net, then lobs him to force the Brit back to the baseline, then puts in a delicious drop shot that leaves Cam stranded.

A net cord bounces up nicely for Nadal in the next point and Norrie puts his instinctive reply into the net. 0-30.

  14. Rain shower on the way?published at 15:25 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Russell Fuller
BBC tennis correspondent at Roland Garros

It's not too hot and humid here at Roland Garros. It's very cloudy, probably about 19C or 20C.

I don't think it is raining as I look out of the commentary box window. But the clouds suggest it could, even though it will be a light sprinkling, I suspect.

    *Nadal 3-2 Norrie

The trouble for Norrie is that he's being pushed to hold his serve, while Rafa Nadal has had a couple of relatively serene service games.

He breezes through the opening set's fifth game by holding to love.

  16. Norrie holds againpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 2-2 Norrie

Fantastic from Cameron Norrie who is not letting Rafa Nadal control the rallies here.

He forces two mistakes with a wide backhand and then forehand from the Spaniard to hold from deuce.

  17. Postpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 2-1 Norrie*

Two big winners from Cameron Norrie, who is really impressing here. A nice backhand and a smash.

But Rafa Nadal replies with two winners of his own. Deuce.

  18. Postpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

    Nadal 2-1 Norrie*

Cameron Norrie tries to produce the sort of perfection that Nadal just reached but his forehand is just wide.

He pumps down the next serve but Rafa wasn't ready. Bit of controversy there?

The point is replayed but Norrie wins it anyway. No trouble then.

  19. Djokovic breezes throughpublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

We were expecting to bring you updates of Novak Djokovic's third-round match against Lithuanian Ricardas Bernakis while the Nadal-Norrie match was ongoing.

But the world number one has decided he fancies a siesta this afternoon and has wrapped up a quickfire straight-set victory in only an hour and 34 minutes.

You can read a report of his win here.

    Nadal 2-1 Norrie

    And that was scary.

Cam Norrie pulled a point back with a good return and then hit an equally good return the next point.

But Rafa Nadal just slammed it down the line in response, grazing the whitewash with stunning accuracy.
