The crowd are doing their best (to lift Parry) and they've got what they want.

And maybe Parry will feel a bit better about life!

  2. Parry breakspublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Krejcikova 4-1 Parry*

Another double fault from Krejcikova creates an opening for Parry, who is handed two break points after a miss by the Czech.

A first rough patch for the second seed, but she responds with an ace and forces deuce. Krejcikova can't keep the mistakes out though - and a couple of unforced errors see Parry pull one break back!

  3. Evans: 'Get out there and fight hard'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Britain's Dan Evans has also been speaking to Radio 5 Live Sports Extra as he bids to win a first match at Roland Garros:

"I've had some good results, some not so good. Probably doesn't look great on paper but I think I've played really well.

"If I never win a match here I'm not going to lose any sleep when I'm done.

"I'll win one at some point but it's about trying to play my game on the court, get out there and fight hard."

  4. Krejcikova breakspublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    *Krejcikova 4-0 Parry

A 15-point streak is brought to an end for Krejcikova with a fine cross-court forehand from Parry.

But that is the only one of three break points against that the French teenager can save. The defending champion is flying.

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

We just heard Emma talking about building up to be a robust athlete - she hasn't had that ability to build up that match fitness.

It's a brutal sport - there's barely any time off and it is week after week, day after day and we just need to be patient with her.

    Krejcikova 3-0 Parry*

Krejcikova could not have wished for a much better start to her title defence.

A love hold takes her 3-0 clear in the first set, and the Czech is yet to drop a point since double-faulting in the opening point of the match.

  7. Krejcikova breakspublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    *Krejcikova 2-0 Parry

Not a good first service game from French teenager Diane Parry. Eager to impress, a couple of errors allow Krejcikova to apply the pressure, and the Czech takes full advantage as she secures the early break to love.

Emma Raducanu has been speaking ahead of opening her Roland Garros campaign:

"I could be a great clay court player looking forward in a few years and I've developed more robustness.

"I feel like I have come away and progressed faster than I expected and I enjoy clay more than I thought I would.

"Now I really believe I can be good."

    Krejcikova 1-0 Parry*

Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova gets us under way, but begins with a double fault.

The Czech gets up and running with a forehand winner, though, and another helps her to game point. After a rusty start, a good hold.

If you haven’t brought a mac and/or brolly with you to Roland Garros today, you’re in big bother.

Luckily I live in Manchester. Don’t worry guys, I’m well prepared.

Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu had staged a decent comeback before rain intervened.

The Canadian has had an injury-disrupted few years since her Flushing Meadows triumph but was battling hard against Germany's Ysaline Bonaventure, leading 3-6 7-5 3-0.

Elsewhere, Victoria Azarenka trails 6-7 (7-9) 3-3 against Ana Bogdan and Taylor Fritz is 7-6 (7-2) 3-6 3-1 up on Argentine qualifier Santiago Rodriguez Taverna.

  12. Krejcikova eyes another memorable run in Parispublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Krejcikova v Parry

Iga Swiatek may be the favourite to triumph at Roland Garros this year, but defending champion Barbora Krejcikova may have something to say about that.

The Czech world number two was unseeded as she clinched a first Grand Slam title at the French Open by beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova last June, in what was only her fifth major singles draw appearance.

And she has since backed that performance up by reaching the quarter-finals at both the US open and Australian Open.

Krejcikova meets French teenager Diane Parry today.

Thankfully, despite her star rising even higher after a stunning few months since the Australian Open, women's world number one Iga Swiatek hasn't forgotten about us and has returned with her BBC Sport column.

The 20-year-old from Poland was able to take advantage of Ash Barty's retirement by claiming the top spot in the rankings and has since thrived in the role - dominating the women's game by winning her past five tournaments.

In her first column at Roland Garros, Swiatek discusses how her "world has changed" this year, the hot streak & how 2022 Iga differs to 2020 Iga.

    Oh, and tiramisu (of course)...

  17. 'I'm focused on my tennis - not stats'published at 12:12 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Swiatek 6-2 6-0 Tsurenko

Here is what Iga Swiatek made of that opening victory: "Amazing. I love playing here, even though the last couple of days have been rainy. Paris has this vibe. I really love playing here. I am really glad I found my rhythm and it was a pretty good match for me."

On playing under the roof: "It is more humid. But honestly I don't mind. When I played two years ago we basically played indoors so I'm pretty used to it. I'm glad I got a chance to practice here on the indoor court."

On her winning streak: "I'm pretty sure that I can [still lose a game] but I just want to keep going. I know my streak may stop one day so every day I want to be focused on my tennis and not on stats or numbers. Focus on my game and be in a bubble that will help me be consistence. I have done that in the past few weeks and I will continue doing that here."

On her plans for the rest of the day: "I have some media, exciting stuff, then maybe we go to Paris and see some things. You can see on my Instagram!"

    Swiatek 6-2 6-0 Tsurenko

    Match point number three...

    Job done!

That was about as dominant as it gets. It's a 29th successive win for Iga Swiatek, who takes 54 minutes to book her place in round two.

    Swiatek 6-2 5-0 Tsurenko*

Swiatek can't clinch her second match point either.

Will she get a third opportunity in this game? A big forehand from the world number one flies into the tramlines, but Tsurenko can't get over the line.
