Never mind Murray Under The Lights.

This is Boulter Under The Lights.

Many more empty green seats than there would have been if the match had started an hour or two earlier.

Last year's runner-up Ons Jabeur, talking to BBC Sport's Annabel Croft:

"I've got to thank the rain a little bit, letting me speak to my coach and having a better perspective about the match. I didn't play my best tennis but I wanted to be more aggressive. I'm playing against a grand slam champion and she made the mission tough.

On her first return to Centre Court since last year's final:

"It was very emotional coming back here since a great final. It's my favourite court and I also love the crowd, the energy and how beautiful it is and hopefully I can come back and play more matches here.

On the variety and similarity of her opponent Bianca Andreescu:

"It was frustrating - her drop shots and slices were annoying and I now know what other players feel. Billie (Jean King) was watching and I swear I was going to turn to her and ask her what she would do. We need to talk please after.

How is her husband (and coach) dealing with the stress:

"I'm sleeping on the couch tonight I think. I looked at him during the game and I don't think he was happy with it."

  3. What shape is Rybakina in?published at 20:52 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Boulter v Rybakina

Watching Elena Rybakina practise against Aryna Sabalenka on the Friday before the tournament started, you did fear the worst for the defending champion.

At Roland Garros, Rybakina got wiped out by a virus which forced her out of the clay-court major and kept her holed up in a Paris hotel room.

The lingering effects meant she was not able to play in Eastbourne in the week before Wimbledon and, when breaking in the grass with Sabalenka on Centre Court, she still looked way out of sorts.

The serve wasn't firing as well as we know it can, the groundstrokes looked unsure.

When the action started for real, Rybakina made a slow start against Shelby Rogers before fighting back to win in three sets and then earned a straight-set victory against an ailing Alize Cornet.

It feels like she has been moving through the gears slowly, so will be interesting to see what shape she is in against a fired-up Boulter.

Neither player was too chuffed about the surface when they restarted play following the delay - but Matteo Berrettini didn't let a slip bother him.

  5. Can Boulter feed off Centre Court energy?published at 20:50 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

As one might guess from her recently being a Tatler cover star, Katie Boulter is a player who thrives in the limelight.

Where the 26-year-old British number one really wants to shine is the biggest tennis courts in the world.

She illuminated Centre Court with a dazzling performance in a win over 2021 finalist Karolina Pliskova last year and is now hoping to cause an even bigger shock there today.

No doubt, the 15,000 home fans - who have no other British singles players to root for - will be fired up.

One would expect Boulter to positively feed off that energy.

Down in the underbelly on Centre, along one of the whitewashed stone walls which gives this place its soul, are the rolls of honour.

White vinyl lettering spells out the names of all the ladies' champions over the previous 135 editions.

This year, Elena Rybakina has been carefully tacked on to the bottom of the board.

Adjacent to that is a photo tribute. The Kazakh walloping away a forehand winner has replaced 2021 champion Ash Barty as the centrepiece on a montage of legends including Serena Williams and Steffi Graf.

That is not a sight Boulter wants to see too often tonight.

Alexander Zverev cuts a frustrated figure as, from 15-30, he sends two returns into the net.

A wonderful drop shot from Berrettini seals the game and the window of opportunity for Zverev slams shut - indeed he half-closed it himself.

Wimbledon have been accused of dilly and dallying today, particularly where the roof has been concerned.

But, with the curfew little over two hours ago, they're getting a wriggle on now.

Boulter and Rybakina will be walking out at 20:48 BST.

Most on Centre Court, who had ample time to stretch their legs and grab a Pimms in the rain delay, have stayed put in anticipation.

It was a tough day for the Brits on Friday as Cameron Norrie, Andy Murray and Liam Broady all lost within 90 minutes of each other, but that means Katie Boulter is flying the flag for the British players in the singles tournament, and she's up next on Centre Court.

Tasks don't come much more difficult than against the defending Wimbledon champion, with Elena Rybakina in Boulter's way as the British number one looks to progress to the fourth round for the first time.

Boutler won her first WTA title a couple of weeks ago and that success, plus the home crowd at Wimbledon, could spur her on to an upset here.

  11. A sniff for Zverev?published at 20:46 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Zverev 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 1-1 Berrettini*

Alexander Zverev sinks to one knee as, 0-15 up on the Berrettini serve, he has the Italian in all sorts of trouble with a deep forehand that is called out.

The umpire overrules the line judge and the point has to be replayed.

But Zverev still wins it as Berrettini goes long. Big chance for the German at 0-30. But then Berrettini whacks down an ace.

  12. Zverev holdspublished at 20:44 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Zverev 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 1-1 Berrettini*

    What an incredible point.

Alexander Zverev finds the line with a fabulous forehand.

Matteo Berrettini not only somehow reaches it, he almost pulls out a winner by swatting it instinctively back cross-court - but it lands inches out as Zverev holds.

  13. Berrettini roars with delightpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    *Zverev 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 0-1 Berrettini

    Michael Emons

A huge roar from Matteo Berrettini and he's taken a massive step closer to the last 16.

Not even the repeated "let's go Sascha (Zverev's nickname), let's go" chant throughout the tie-break, which in no way at all is going to become hugely annoying, can inspire the German.

There was a challenge on the final point of the tie-break, but Zverev is just going through the motions and was already heading slowly back to his chair before his fate was confirmed.

Berrettini, the 2021 runner-up, has said he was trying to erase the pain of missing last year's tournament after testing positive for Covid-19 and this could be going some way to erasing those memories. Berrettini two up, one to go.

At just gone 20:40 BST, we've got to the end of of the second match of the day on Centre Court.

With the Championships already lagging behind because of the rain this week, it leads to a key question: why doesn't play start earlier than 13:30 BST?

The All England Club has not yet answered that.

There is clearly a willingness for the days to stretch into the nights, ideal timing for the TV audience.

But today's elongated play means Katie Boulter and Elena Rybakina face a race to beat the 11pm curfew.

One of the biggest ovations of the evening on Court One.

No, not for Matteo Berrettini holding serve to start the third set.

For a wonderful reaction catch by the umpire after a Zverev rocket came right at him.

England's fielders at The Ashes could watch and learn from this fella.
