You might have read earlier that Great Britain's bobsleigh duo of Paula Walker and Rebekah Wilson finished 12th.

Here's what they thought of the performance, starting with Walker:

"No athlete comes in wanting to come 12th at the Olympics but to put it into perspective both Rebekah and I have had a long, long journey in different ways but we have made it to the Olympics and I think we have done ourselves proud."

And Wilson: "I feel really proud that I am here with Paula and that all the hard work has paid off. I am frustrated with my performance, we both know if we hadn't made some mistakes that we could have done better, but people forget how difficult it is to get here."

"Huge disappointment for Yulia Lipnitskaya, she has been elevated into this superstar position and it is bound to affect her. With five skaters to come, she may not even be in medal contention by the end of the day."

Canada and USA were expected to ease into the semi-finals against Latvia and Czech Republic respectively - and it is panning out that way for one of the North American nations at least. The Americans, who have not won Olympic gold since 1980, are cruising as they lead 4-1 at the end of the second period. Instead, it is defending champions Canada who are labouring. They are tied at 1-1 heading into the final 20-minute spell.

Emotions take hold of GB bobsleigh pair Paula Walker and Rebekah Wilson in their post-race interviews after a gruelling experience in Sochi.

"I wanted to do so much better," says Olympic debutant Wilson, who was fighting back the tears when she spoke to BBC Sport.

Walker adds: "I don't know what went wrong really, I had a horrible third run and it hasn't got much better, we just need to move on and think about the next Olympics."

"Canada's Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse defend the crown they claimed in Vancouver four years ago.

"But the major question - what on earth happened to USA's Elena Meyers and Lauryn Williams? They had a 0.23 second lead heading into today but completely threw it away with two bumpy runs which made them slip.

"USA 2 - featuring Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans - finished third and with bronze."

But it all goes wrong for USA 1 pair Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams in the final run. The Americans take a big hit early on and cannot recover. That allows Canada 1 duo, Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse, to win gold, sparking pandemonium among their team.

"Essentially it is all about who gets gold and who has to settle for silver here in the final run. Just 0.11 seconds separates the USA and reigning champions Canada.

"If the USA can win then breakman Lauryn Williams would become the first woman in history to claim Olympic gold at both a summer and winter Games."
