"A great game and Great Britain held it well. What a tremendous end to the game. The boys have worked so hard to get to the Olympic final and the delight is clear on Dave Murdoch's face. They now have the chance for a gold medal.

"Niklas Eden knew it was the shot he had to play and he overthrew the stone. From his mistake, we took our chance. When you are given the opportunities, you must capitalise on them. It was looking like an extra end, but a great result for Britain.

"We have got a great chance against Canada, there is a huge rivalry between the two countries. I don't expect to see anything less than 10 ends. Canada are beginning to come up in the tournament, but both teams are peaking at the right time."

Chris Harvey, external: Dave Murdoch probably picked a good sport to compete in considering he has ice in his veins.

Dark Derek, external: Oh my word! Dave Murdoch & the boys pull off a stunning shot and steal the curling game!!! Unbelievable! Finals here we come.

Great Britain's men have not won Olympic gold since 1924, but now this current crop have the opportunity to end 90 years of hurt. Only Canada, the defending champions no less, stand in their way.

The final takes place on Friday at 13:30 GMT. Where will you be? Right here following the action with BBC Sport, of course. We will have live text and video across desktop, mobile and tablet so you won't miss an end wherever you are.

"Great Britain were in control of this match for so long but made two bad shots and it looked like they cannot get away with that, especially in the 10th end but Niklas Eden looked to the skies and by a quarter of an inch, his last stone skipped by the British one.

"The British crowd jump up and down in the stand, Dave Murdoch and this British team have played so well today, capitalising on a mistake from the Swedish skip, a guaranteed medal for them. When the questions have been asked for Dave Murdoch, he has been able to answer them.

"Britain were better in the stats and on the shot making. There were a couple of bad shots in the last end, but they deserved the win."

While jubilant GB skip David Murdoch screamed and fist-pumps his way down the ice, Sweden skip Niklas Edin looks like a man who has just been told his much-loved cat has died. Edin has apparently admitted to resembling tennis hot-head John McEnroe earlier in his career - brushes could be getting smashed up in the Swedish changing room right now.

  6. GB reach gold-medal finalpublished at 17:49 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2014

Unbelievable! Sweden skip Niklas Edin sends his stone crashing down to leave the door wide open for GB to get the two they need. David Murdoch eases one down the track. Has it got the line? Has it got the pace? Yes it has! A perfect delivery by Murdoch puts GB into the gold medal final!

GB skip David Murdoch produces a great penultimate shot to stick his stone in the house. So after almost three hours of action it comes down to this: one shot for each skip. Can you feel the tension?

This is very difficult to call. GB have held the advantage for most of the game, but another mistake sees the momentum swing back in favour of the Swedes. "You can't afford to do that," says a rueful-sounding BBC Sport commentator Steve Cram. Just the two skips left to play. GB can still get the one they need to take the tie to an extra end.

Ashen faces among the British team after a horrible mistake from Scott Andrews, whose stone whizzes through the house midway through the final end, gives Sweden a lifeline. The Swedes take a time out, prompting plenty of frantic discussions about their options.

Canada forward Corey Perry skids to a stop as Latvia goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis smothers the puck - and gets a face full of ice for his efforts. Patrick Sharp (not to be confused with 1980s mulleted TV presenter Pat Sharp) puts Canada ahead before Latvia equalise within two minutes. The sides are level 1-1.

"Two shots to Sweden and they take the lead in this enthralling semi-final which has gone one way then the other. That was good result for them going into the 10th."

GB skip David Murdoch eases a beautifully-weighted final stone right into the pack - but it is not enough for Sweden counterpart Niklas Edin to secure a two. The world and European champions lead, but GB have the hammer in the final end.

Huge cheers from the Canadian contingent echo around the Ice Cube as their team pick up three points in the ninth end to go 10-6 ahead against China. The defending champions have one foot in the final - but who is going to join them?

A fast and ferocious start in the men's quarter-final between USA and Czech Republic as the pair race out of the blocks quicker than Usain Bolt. The Americans open the scoring after 107 seconds, before they are immediately pegged back by their opponents. Still goalless in the other last-eight tie between Canada and Latvia.

Superb shot by GB's Greg Drummond who scatters two of Sweden's stones sat in the house to whoops of British delight inside the Ice Cube Centre. That sets a decent platform for the Brits, who decide to take one with their last stone and give Sweden the hammer in the ninth. In theory, they hope, it will see them regain the hammer in the final tenth end.

There has already been one shock in the men's quarter-finals today, with host nation Russia - to the obvious displeasure of president Vladimir Putin - being dumped out by Finland. But we're not going to see any more shocks, are we?

Heavyweight pair Canada and USA are just about to begin their last-eight ties against European duo Latvia and Czech Republic. It would take a brave person to bet against the North Americans. And I'm not prepared to do it.
