    Gangmun beach

Nope, I've not been sent to Copacabana by accident. This is Gangmun beach in Gangneung, the province where the Games' arena sports are being held.

It's a little disconcerting to arrive at the Winter Olympics and see golden sand and blue skies, but it is still chilly here. Temperatures range from between six degrees and -2C at this time of year.

Although no sport is happening on the seaside, the Olympic rings have been erected here and a fire and art show is being held every Friday during the Games.

Think Burning Man festival, but instead of bikinis everyone's wearing thermal vests and snow boots.

10:00-13:00: The Dutch - the dominant force in Olympic long-track speed skating history - could begin another gold medal rush on the opening day in the women's 3,000m.

The four-time champion Ireen Wust won the titles at Turin 2006 and Sochi 2014 and secured her 12th world crown last February - and two further honours in Pyeongchang will make her the sport's most decorated Olympic medallist.

Fellow Dutchwoman Antoinette de Jong and Canadian Ivanie Blondin should provide strong challenges, as could Natalya Voronina.

With no Russian team following the well-documented doping scandal, Voronina is likely to be competing under a neutral flag and would be a contender, having won her maiden 3,000m World Cup in December.

Natasha: It's weird to think I was watching the opening ceremony on TV this (now yesterday) morning at 11 am GMT and since then it's been nighttime in Korea and now well into day two. And all I've done in that time is go shopping.

10:00-13:00: The absence of South Korea-born Russian six-time Olympic champion Viktor Ahn is a boost for the host nation in the 1500m.

The battle between their 1500m world champion Sin Da-woon and overall world champion Seo Yi-ra is likely to be one of the highlights of the Games.

Snowboarder123: Huge injustice for Jamie Nicholls in the qualifiers. He’s done himself proud. Well done on the interview too, must have been hard.

If you missed it, this was Jamie Nicholls' second run. This wasn't the run where the controversial scoring occurred. This was the one where he ended up tasting the snow.

  16. 'I'm genuinely gutted'published at 03:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2018

Team GB's Jamie Nicholls on BBC One: "I was gutted to see 71. Genuinely gutted. I felt I was clean through on the rails and that I had done something genuinely different to the others. I don't understand, that's how it goes in competitions sometimes but it looks like I might miss out on the finals by one spot.

"I'm happy anyway, it's just how it goes in competitions and it's on to the big-air now. I'm fairly confident with it now, I've been working hard on my tricks and hopefully I'll be able to get them down.

"Hopefully one of us will qualify for the finals - that would be nice. Conditions haven't been great but its the same for everyone and I did my best."

There's some real inconsistency here. I think when the judges look back at this they're going to be left a little red-faced.
