Zhang Hong leaned too far forward and the point of her skate just seemed to grind into the ice. It's basically an elongated sprint, this race, and she just tired up.

Defending champion Hong Zhang of China is up and looking good, almost half a second ahead. But wait, she nearly falls!

Her left leg is gone, she ties up badly and Zhang is only third!

That time set by Ireen Wust hangs on to gold...for now!

    Curling

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Team GB curler Rhona Howie speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "The Russian team really struggled and all of the Team GB players played the shots they had to play. It was a clinical performance.

"Over the years, there was a lot of talk about curling your hair and sweeping floors but now people are a lot more aware about what curling is about.

"That is through the media and the Olympics. It's been very good for the sport. Hopefully it will grow and grow."

They also discussed Mr T's tweeting, saying "he has been going nuts for curling." #curlingiscoolfool

    Snowboarding: Men's halfpipe

    Chemmy Alcott
Four-time Olympic alpine ski racer on BBC TV

Shaun White had to fight for that. It was so exciting! I loved watching him. He was really made to lift his game.

He hasn't been pushed that hard for so long. You could see by his emotion. It was incredible riding, oh my gosh.

You can see his passion lies in the halfpipe. He still wants to push himself.

Surely Jeremy: Shaun White is scarily good. He must have most of his opponents beaten before they've even went onto the snow. Bring your best. He brings his better best.

Kieran Gregory: Shaun White's final run was one of the best things I've ever seen, gutted for Scotty James.

    Luge doubles (From 11:20 GMT)

The magnificentally-odd Luge doubles is starting in under an hour.

The doubles is a one-day competition, with a pair of athletes taking two runs. The pair with the fastest aggregate time over the two runs is the winner.

There is no rule that says both athletes must be men. However, men usually ride together, with the larger man lying on top for a more aerodynamic fit.

Great Britain's men edged out Switzerland to make a winning start to their curling campaign at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Led by Kyle Smith, the British quartet were 2-1 up after five ends, 4-3 down after eight, and pegged back to 5-5 in the 10th.

However, Smith was left with a simple shot to close out the game 6-5 in the sudden-death extra end.
