Well that was a superb time from Ireen Wust. I don't think it will be quick enough to get gold. It's a lot slower than some of the training laps. The ice is really good today too so will expect faster times.

There are still lots of big favourites to come yet too.

That's good from Ireen Wust - she clocks 1:15.32 to set a new marker down. Will that be quick enough for a medal?

    We will have to wait.

Ireen Wust is the greatest Dutch Olympian of all time but this is perhaps not her best distance?

Everybody will be rooting for Ireen Wust to add to her medal tally. But I think she will be very lucky to get on the podium to be honest.

Vincent Bevins, who works for the Washington Post, has brought us one of the best stories of the Winter Olympics so far!

"Police have now surrounded and asked the apparent impersonator to come with him, he says his name's Howard, was just cheering and looks like this, and didn't commit any crime. Refuses to go with them. South Korea police apparently unsure what to do…

He speaks English with UK accent, no Korean. They've now told him he broke a rule against making political statements. He responds: "I just showed up with my flag and my face... If you don't like my face there's nothing you can do about it, I was born this way."

I don't speak Korean either, but my sense was police didn't know what to do with him. If he was breaking a rule or just making an obvious commotion and drawing a crowd. This just happened in front of me, and I'm unlikely to find out more. Maybe we'll hear Howard's story later.

British freestyle skiers have been sampling the Olympic slopestyle course for the first time today and as with several nations there were a host of crashes and aborted runs.

“The wind was crazy & we couldn’t do many jumps,” GB’s Tyler Harding tells me. “There’s a bit of a conundrum trying to figure out the rails as there are a lot to choose from and it’s really creative - so you have to pick your line and make something cool out of it.

“Now I’m here I’m hoping to figure out a run that will show to the world the best of my abilities.”

    Ski slopestyle

    Nick Hope
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

GB's James Woods takes part in the Olympic ski slopestyle on Sunday. He was cruelly denied a true podium push in Sochi 2014 after a hip injury. Is Pyeongchang 2018 his time?

"It's ace [being at the Olympics.] We have everybody on board," he said.

"The sport has come a long way and it will be great to show everybody what we can do.

"The goal is to just be given the opportunity to do my best. That is my dream. I don't really care about anything else. Rock and roll!"

The next medal to be decided comes in the women's long track speed skating, which starts at 10:00 GMT.

Japan’s Nao Kodaira begins as favourite. She underlined her status as the world’s top sprinter by breaking the 1000m world record in Salt Lake City in December. She also became the first Japanese woman to hold a record in an individual speed skating event, shaving 0.09 seconds off the previous mark, set by the USA’s Brittany Bowe in 2015.

The 31-year-old’s only defeat over the two shortest distances this season came when she slipped in a World Cup race in Calgary in November. Kodaira, who is said to be her own harshest critic, says “I have to be careful not to get injured or sick or let my guard down, and aim for higher ground.”

British Skeleton racer Jerry Rice: "We have everything checked before the race. All the equipment we use is checked and signed off by the IBSF (International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation) and the materials control, so they're fine with everything we do.

"Every other nation will be doing what they can as well and it's up to other people to worry about that, not for the athletes or even our staff if I'm honest. We're all very relaxed about it."

It's going to be another gold medal for Eric Frenzel! The Germans are already celebrating. Akito Watabe will once again have to settle for silver. Jarl Magnus Riiber collapses over the line but the pursuit was in vein. Once again, in that battle for gold, it is Frenzel who comes out on top and finds that extra strength when it matters.
