    Netherlands take 3000m relay gold

"Today, Lara proudly looked down on us."

The Netherlands claimed an emotional short track speed skating gold at the Winter Olympics on Sunday, 18 months after a former team-mate died aged 27.

In July 2020, Lara van Ruijven died, having been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder after falling ill at a training camp in France.

She was the reigning 500m world champion and had been part of the Dutch team which won 3,000m relay bronze at the Pyeongchang Games in 2018.

Four years on, Suzanne Schulting, Yara van Kerkhof - both of whom were in the 2018 squad alongside Van Ruijven - plus Selma Poutsma and Xandra Velzeboer won gold in the event in a time of four minutes 03.409 seconds, breaking their own Olympic record in the process.

Katie Ormerod says she has slayed her demons after her horror injury in training at Pyeongchang 2018.

She's competed in both slopestyle and big air in Beijing and returns home injury-free.

The 24-year-old is already focusing on the next Games, which will be held in Italy in 2026.

Ormerod said: “I've come here, done my best and got the experience of competing at the Olympic Games and having experience of that pressure. I know I can go forward to 2026 with a lot of confidence."

She said women's snowboarding was progressing at a fast rate but added: "That's why I love snowboarding.

"I love the challenge and how fun it is. That is the start of it, the progression and I want to keep developing."

Look at the goalkeeper desperately looking back. All of the puck is over the line my friends. Chalk that one up.

Canada are top of women's qualifying group A and Switzerland are bottom.

Little wonder perhaps that it's 5-1 in the first period.

Four years ago the French couple missed out on top spot after a wardrobe malfunction, taking silver with Papadakis distracted when the top of her costume unhooked.

Not to be for Team GB’s Katie Ormerod.

The cab 900 is normally bread and butter for her but she can’t land it and her Olympics come to an end.

It’s been a huge task to get back from her almost career-ending injury in 2018. Just to be here and competing with the best of the world is a great result.

She has just spoken to me and said she had been struggling with the jump in practice.

"I don't usually fall in big air," she told me.

"I knew I could do these tricks. These are the ones I usually do for qualification. I got it on my second jump and then I decided to go for my cab 9 as I knew I needed that to go into the finals. Unfortunately I just didn't quite make it to the landing.

"Although it really sucks, I struggled with this jump all week. I just couldn't clear it very well. It's been tough.

"Today I just thought I'm going to give it everything. It's sport and it just didn't work out for me."
