  3. "I hated it!" - Cackett's first bobsleigh experiencepublished at 03:30 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    Four-man bobsleigh

What’s it actually like in a bobsleigh?

We asked GB's Greg Cackett what he really thought when he first got into a bobsleigh…

“I hated it! Because the pilot wasn’t great,” he said.

“My first run was Igls in Austria and that’s renowned to be the easiest track in the world and I was there hating every second on the softest easiest track in the world thinking ‘this is going to get worse’ and it did!

“The thing is it’s only because when you do the first one you have no frame of reference for the pressure, the bumps, the smashing and what you experience.

“So once you get that first one out of the way and you get back and go again, it’s literally a totally different experience. You suddenly then feel prepared for what’s coming and if you’ve got the right mindset you never look back really.”

Oh, and that first pilot – it wasn’t Brad.

    Men's freeski halfpipe final

More from Gus Kenworthy: "Skiing has meant the whole world to me.

"I started doing this when I was three-years-old, my mum and I learnt together. She was 41, she used to sing to me on the chairlift and I would take naps on her lap. She would wake me up at the top and we would do another run.

"All of my best friends I have made through this sport, I have got to travel the globe.

"Having an Olympic medal has opened up so many opportunities for me so I am internally indebted to this sport and I feel so grateful to be able to be a part of it and compete at three Olympic Games with this one for GB on behalf of my mum. I love you mum."

  8. 'I was happy to get through in one piece'published at 03:16 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    Men’s freeski halfpipe final

Here's what Team GB's Gus Kenworthy had to say on BBC One, following his final competition: "It felt great to put a run down. It was not the run I came out here to do, it was not the run I was hoping to do in the final and it wasn’t even the run I was hoping to do considering the conditions.

"I still had more that I wanted but after that bad slam I’m really just happy to be walking, land a run and get through it in one piece.

"In skiing, I really think wind is the biggest factor that we face. Snow we can deal with, speed we can deal with, even if a halfpipe isn’t up to your liking you can adapt.

"But when it’s windy and there’s gusts, it’s out of your control and it's kind of a luck game."
