Track cycling - men's sprint bronze medal race

We have a deciding race now to see who will win the bronze medal in the men's sprint event. Britain's Jack Carlin won the first of three races but, as you can see below, Jeffrey Hoogland took the second one to set up a three-lap shootout for a medal.

Spain keeper Arnau Tenas had a shocker for the French opening goal, but he has made up for it since.

Another quality save from the PSG man denies Manu Kone as he flings himself to the right.

Moments later, Enzo Millot fires over from a tight angle on the left.

It’s all France! Spain offering the odd warning sign on the counter, though.

I think Britain lost it a little bit on some of the exchanges because I think we were matching them, leg speed for leg speed.

France are still on the front foot.

Jean-Philippe Mateta’s eyes light up when a ball comes to his stride from the right.

So do those of the home fans.

A striker in the form he’s in could easily sweep this home, but the Crystal Palace man has Eric Garcia on his back and can’t connect cleanly.

The teams are in for the women's 4x100m relay.

As expected, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita come into the quartet - Asher-Smith will run the first leg and Neita the last.

There's no Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in the Jamaica team in what would have been her final Olympics. She pulled out of the 100m with injury, as did team-mate Shericka Jackson, who is also missing from tonight's race.

Sha'Carri Jackson, however, has been going through her warm-ups backstage, and the 100m silver medallist will anchor the US home.

Manu Kone thought it was in. So did 48,000 French fans here. And millions more across the nation.

The France midfielder meets a cross from Adrian Truffert on the left, but his header is a fraction too loopy and cannons back off the bar.

Encouraging signs for France though as we enter the final half an hour.

Conflicting emotions in the fan park from those who've turned out to watch the men's football final on a big screen.

I've just found a little enclave of gleeful Spanish fans.

One of them, Miguel, says his country's not having the best Olympics overall - but a gold in the football would help to "fix" that. Sat next to him is Joy, who's supporting France.

Despite being surrounded by a sea of blue, Miguel says his group are cheering even louder than they would back home, as a matter of national "pride".

Nearby, a pair of French fans are convinced all is not lost despite the scoreline.

"We're not worried," say Flavia and Juliette, coolly.

While the crowds were coming in today, I spotted the mum and sister of GB's Sophie Capewell. Sorry, I should say, GB's OLYMPIC CHAMPION Sophie Capewell.

Capewell won team sprint gold on Monday night alongside Emma Finucane and Katy Marchant, and is through to the individual sprint 1/16 finals today.

Asked how it feels to have an Olympic champion in the family, sister Emily said it was "surreal", but mum Debbie said she was still so nervous for today's racing and would be "pushing every pedal" with Sophie.

Can KJT take Paris gold?published at 18:22 British Summer Time 9 August

    Athletics - women's heptathlon - 800m (19:25 BST)

The gold medal in the women's heptathlon will be decided tonight in the Stade de France, but will it be Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson or Nafissatou Thiam of Belgium who takes the title in Paris?

For the two heptathletes that sit first (Thiam) and second (KJT) in the standings, it all comes down to the 800m at 19:25 BST. Thiam tops the standings with 5,924 points, followed by world champion Johnson-Thompson with 5,803.

If she is to beat to Thiam in Paris - which is a tall task, as the 29-year-old is already the double Olympic champion in the heptathlon - then Johnson-Thompson needs to run roughly eight seconds quicker than Thiam in the 800m to win.

The time gap between their personal bests is 6.16 seconds: Johnson-Thompson's is 2:05.63 compared to Thiam's 2:11.79, which was set in June.
