The rain is pouring down on to the track as the women return for the 100m final at Stade de France.

No Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. No Dina Asher-Smith. No Shericka Jackson. No Elaine Thompson-Herah.

Many of these finalists will sense a huge opportunity here - including Great Britain's Daryll Neita.

Olympic glory is less than 11 seconds away. Who will be able to seize their moment?

    Video review of Walsh disqualification

Alex Walsh has been disqualified for an illegal turn from backstroke into breaststroke.

She'd won the bronze medal and lost it before she'd even left the pool. Heartbreaker for the American. Team-mate Kate Douglass put a consoling arm around her shoulders as the two left.

Discipline, dedication, and a little delusion.

At her third Olympic Games, Daryll Neita, believes anything is possible in Paris.

The 27-year-old is a five-time global medallist as an ever-present in the British women's 4x100m team, including Olympic bronze at both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

But here, at her third Olympics, Neita, the second-fastest British woman of all time, will seek to replicate that relay success in the 100m and 200m events as she pursues individual honours.

"My goals are through the roof. I don’t put limits on myself at all," Neita told BBC Sport earlier this year.

"It would mean the world to me [to win an individual medal]. I have put in so much work to be in this position. It would be all of that hard work and dedication paying off.

"One thing I always say is: 'Be a bit delusional.' Believe in yourself, keep going and don't give up."

Whatever happens tonight, there's going to be three new names on the women's 100m podium.

It will be the first time since Beijing in 2008 that Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won't win a 100m medal.

She won gold at Beijing and London 2012, bronze at Rio and silver at Tokyo.

Jamaica's hopes now rest on the shoulders of 19-year-old Tia Clayton, who was joint second fastest in the semi-finals with a time of 10.89 seconds.

If Clayton doesn't come first, second or third tonight, it will be the first time since 1988 that a Jamaican sprinter hasn't medalled in the women's 100m

Massive gasps as it come up on the board that Alex Walsh has been disqualified!

I actually thought she'd nabbed the gold from Summer McIntosh as they went in the final 50m but what a finish from the 17-year-old.

A really sweet moment as Summer McIntosh walks away from the pool - there's a TV set up that shows other Canadian fans and athletes watching from various places around the world.

She gives them a big smile and a wave before she walks away to conduct media duties. Three golds and a silver and she's just 17-years-old. Astonishing.

Julien Alfred, who impressed in the semi-final in beating Sha'Carri Richardson, has one aim: to win St Lucia's first Olympic medal.

"It would be a proud moment not just for me and for my family but also for my country," she said.

Her trajectory is clear - she was second in the Youth Olympics in 2018 behind Rosemary Chukuma - and then finished fifth at the Worlds in 2023.

Can she go all the way tonight? You bet she can!

Sha'Carri Richardson is aiming to put three years of Olympic hurt behind her as she chases gold in Paris this evening.

A one-month anti-doping suspension for marijuana use caused Richardson to miss her first Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The American's positive test came after her victory at her nation's Olympic trials, which took place a week after the death of her biological mother. She explained she had used cannabis as a way of coping.

She failed to qualify for the 2022 World Championship but won the 100m world title a year later in Budapest.

Of her fellow competitors in Paris, only Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has run faster over 100m than 24-year-old Richardson.
