We have just seen a little bit of history there.

Katie Ledecky is the absolute Queen of the pool, to be able to see someone dominate on a distance event for 13 years is absolutey rilliant.

She did it the hard way, she doesn't hold back at all. Ariane Titmus just couldn't hang with her at the end.

Very impressive from Paige Madden as well. We have seen her win relays silver medals at the Olympic Games but I think she came into her own.

Awesome swimming from Katie Ledecky. Ariarne Titmus had to do her best time there, Paige Madden also her best time by five seconds, but Ledecky took the gold. She holds the four fingers up, like we saw Leon Marchand do the other night. Four straight Olympic golds in this event - phenomenal.

Katie Ledecky is an all-time great in the pool. We already knew that but she has proved it in Paris once more.

The first woman ever in Olympic history to win an individual event in the pool four times in a row.

Incredibly, a 14th Olympic medal and a ninth gold.

That has been an epic battle particularly between Ariarne Titmus and Ledecky. That was special.

    Katie Ledecky, take a bow.

NINE Olympic golds. 14 Olympic medals overall.

The joint-most golds by a female Olympian, tied with former Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina. The United States' most decorated female Olympian. The only woman, the only swimmer other than the great Michael Phelps, to win the same Olympic event four times in a row.

It never looked in doubt. Ariarne Titmus shares a hug with her rival and friend, before standing back and applauding as the crowd roar Ledecky out of the arena.

So, Titmus takes the silver medal and USA's Paige Madden claims the bronze.

Daryll Neita has grown so much, grown in stature she has started to believe in herself and abilities. She put a whole race together - she never used to be a good starter, a good finisher yes, but now she has got it all. She has come so painfully close, which is what she is feeling right now.

Here's what GB's Daryll Neita had to tell BBC One after finishing fourth in the women's 100m final: "I'm finding it hard to find words at the minute, literally speechless, so close to the medal, so close.

"I think I put a good race together, I came fourth in the final, it's an amazing progression - I was last in the final last time. I can only bring this fight into the 200m, because I'm there.

"I'm lost for words at the minute. I'm healthy and I have the 200m to contest in. I was so close to that medal and I really wanted that medal.

"But fourth in the Olympics is something to be proud of.

"I just embraced it, I'm from the UK. The rain didn't deter me at all.

"I really, really, really wanted that medal. I need to recover because I'm in the 200m."
