Julien describes just how tough the pathway to the top of the sport can be. She explains how hard it was relocating to Jamaica as a young teenager in order to join a coaching group. We also gain a real insight into the role of her coach, Edrick Floreal, and the value he places on supporting his athletes – not just on the track, but in terms of their mental wellbeing.

Who is Summer McIntosh?published at 21:16 British Summer Time 3 August

Leon Marchand and Katie Ledecky have grabbed a lot of the headlines so far in the pool in Paris but Canada’s Summer McIntosh has been just as deserving of the spotlight.

Three golds, four medals and two Olympic records … and she is only 17!

McIntosh set an Olympic record tonight in the 200m individual medley, adding to record she set earlier in the week in the 200m butterfly.

She won a dominant 400m individual medley gold on day three and silver in the 400m freestyle on day one.

McIntosh has been gradually stamping her mark on swimming since she made her Olympic debut at just 14 in Tokyo in 2021.

She’s a four-time world champion and won six medals at the last Commonwealth games when she was just 15.

It’s perhaps no surprise she’s pretty handy in the pool. He mum Jill represented Canada at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and he sister Brooke competed at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in figure skating.

And one of her heroes is American swimming legend Michael Phelps. Mikey, the family's pet cat, is named after the 23-time Olympic champion.

I wasn't into these mixed races at all when they were first brought in but it's actually the best event on the programme, it is absolute chaos personified.

I thought that for all my money that USA were going to run away with that but what a meet China are having, they gave it absolutely everything.

    Brilliant, brilliant race.

Whoever decided on the tactics and running order for 4x100m mixed medley for GB tonight, EPIC FAIL. So disappointed in how we performed in the race.

Everyone is on their feet as the French team walk out, stamping their feet and waving whatever tricolore they have to hand.

There's a decent reception for Great Britain, too. Duncan Scott, who became Scotland's most decorated Olympian with his 200m medley silver, lets out a puff of air as he pops out the headphones and gets into the zone.
