Simone Biles actually took a bit of a tumble on her last of two warm-up attempts, but she looks as calm as you would expect as she chats away to USA team-mate Jade Carey as she waits for her proper effort - when it really matters.

    Completely unfazed.

    Women's singles - final

The women's singles final has just got under way at Roland Garros, with China's Zheng Qinwen taking on Croatia's Donna Vekic for the gold medal.

Zheng, the Australian Open runner-up in January, shocked world number one and reigning French Open champion Iga Swiatek in her semi-final on Thursday.

Vekic reached her first Grand Slam singles semi-final at Wimbledon last month.

For both Zheng and Vekic, ranked seventh and 21st in the world respectively, an Olympic title would be the biggest of their careers to date.

It's heating up in the men's road race with Ireland's Ben Healy all alone at the front, pedalling through the streets of Paris.

He is just 20 seconds ahead of a strong group of chasers which contains Britain's Fred Wright, Canada's Michael Woods, Germany's Nils Politt and Switzerland's Stefan Kung. A very strong quartet.

And another 20 seconds behind them is a group containing Dutch world champion Mathieu van der Poel and Belgium's Wout van Aert.

Thousands of fans are lining the streets as the riders head into Paris and do three laps of a circuit which includes the iconic Montmartre climb.

I caught up with Stewart and Stanley Walsh, who had cycled from Cheshire to Paris - just to watch the road races.

The dad and son combo had cycled more than 500 miles and are loving the Olympics vibe in Paris.

Stewart told me: "It's great to have made it here. Paris is really embracing the Olympics."

And who is Stanley backing for the win? "I think it could be France celebrating with Julian Alaphilippe, or Belgian's Wout van Aert."

Minutes after moving into the sole lead, Tommy Fleetwood has been muscled out of the way.

The Brit bogeys 12 to go 12 under as Spain’s Jon Rahm birdies 13 to go under. Symmetry.

And now Fleetwood’s playing partner Xander Schauffele has joined him in tied second.

The last group out have so far struggled to join in the birdie-fest which those around them on the leaderboard are enjoying.

It's the first time we've seen Simone Biles in the arena today - interestingly her main rival Rebeca Andrade was out here earlier warming up and practising on the vault.

Now is not a good time to pop out to get refreshments - this will be a very quick final... each vault only takes around 10 seconds. The eight gymnasts do two vaults each, with the scores averaged.

The noise when Simone Biles entered the arena was something else.

Of all the events I've been at, only the cheers for the French athletes have come anywhere close.

What an absolute superstar - and this crowd know it!

In saying that, the ones for Rebeca Andrade weren't far behind (though that may have something to do with the group of Brazilians directly behind me!)

One anterior cruciate ligament injury would be bad enough, but three?

Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, 25, had to overcome multiple ACL setbacks on her way to securing vault gold and all-around silver on her Games debut in Tokyo in 2021.

Andrade's medal cabinet is also bursting with three golds, four silvers, and two bronzes from the 2021, 2022 and 2023 world championships.

One of those shiny wold golds is the vault title from last year's championship in Antwerp, Belgium - the crown she beat silver medallist Simone Biles to.

Simone Biles has got incredible difficulty in this vault final but Brazil's Rebeca Andrade won't let it lie easily.

Andrade has submitted a really difficult vault that no-one else in the world has ever done before and could be named after her. She will have trained it and she has submitted it, but whether she does it today I don't know.

But if Biles lands on her feet - the gold is hers. The difficulty is just too high.

Simone Biles sealed her sixth Olympic gold medal earlier this week when she won the all-around gymnastics title in style at the Bercy Arena, and now she's back to hopefully add another page to the record books in today's vault final.

The 27-year-old American, who returned to the sport after a two-year break last summer, will be up against Brazilian rival Rebeca Andrade - the winner of the vault title at the delayed Tokyo Games three years ago.

Following her all-around victory, Biles stressed how much pressure 25-year-old Andrade, who won silver, had put on her, saying: "I've never had an athlete that close - it definitely put me on my toes and brought out the best athlete in myself."

Biles opened her vault rotation on Thursday with the Yurchenko double pike - or the 'Biles II' as it is now known. The difficulty level of this move is so high because once you lift off into the air and start rotating, you either land on your feet, or you possibly land on your neck. Gulp.

Luke Whitehouse, speaking to BBC Sport after finishing sixth: "That was probably the best floor final I’ve ever witnessed and going up last as well, I had all the pressure off me. I gave it everything and I really enjoyed it out there."

First Olympics, didn’t compete at worlds, how much pressure was on your shoulders?

"I just came here trying to enjoy it really. I’m European champion and I knew I was capable today of being the champion here but it wasn’t meant to be."

Did you feel that your score was too low?

"I was down on my difficulty score because I landed my second tumble lower than 90 degrees so they take quite a lot of marks off for that so I was way down on difficulty."

Making first Olympics – was it everything you thought it would be?

"It’s been such a crazy experience, and I’m still so young, I’ve got many more to come hopefully, and I’ve just enjoyed every single second..

"I can see the competition there, I know where I can be and it’s given me a lot of inspiration to go back and keep working."

Not that you need them with this crazy version of canoe slalom.

Or when there's a French kayaker.

The start is really dramatic as four kayakers launch themselves off a raised platform and into the water.

A fast getaway is essential to avoid having to jostle with your opponents during what can be a considerably chaotic run to the finish.
