It was more heartbreak for Team GB in the ring as 92kg fighter Delicious Orie suffered an early loss in the last 16 in Paris.

Great Britain's Beth Potter is still right in the mix, alongside home favourites Cassandre Beaugrand and Emma Lombardi. Switzerland's Julie Derron is the fourth in that leading group.

Georgia Taylor-Brown has fallen away slighty, she is sixth, just behind defending champion Flora Duffy of Bermuda.

All eyes on Beth Potter, by far the quickest of the 10k athletes here, by far the quickest of the runners.

You cannot discount Georgia Taylor-Brown, it will be wonderful to see her come back from injury. Silver medal last time in Tokyo. She’s also in that group but this is where the damage will be done. You'll see the ones that are feeling good, that are fresh. They’ll want to put the marker down early on.

It's going to be a gruelling battle of will and guts over this run. Joined by Georgia Taylor-Brown, can this be a spectacular medal double for GB?

Athletics expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

Beth Potter is working hard when she pushing up to the front of the pack, trying to do her bit on the front and Georgia Taylor-Brown is looking serene, she’s looking very very comfortable. She’s doing her stint up there as well.

You can almost see when Flora Duffy hits the front, because they drag the cyclists out. She really makes them work hard. This is where they’re starting to think about what they’re going to do on the run because nine doesn’t go into three.

This has been absolutely compelling. It feels like it's a race of who can stay on their bike, who is going to make it on to the run in one piece and then we are going to see who has the legs for it.

This is getting really exciting, especially if you're a British viewer. We have got two phenomenal athletes in that front pack.

I think we are going to have some medals today.

Great Britain's women's team missed out on a successive Olympic bronze medal by 0.234 of a point.

The quartet of Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton, Becky Downie and Ruby Evans scored 164.263 points but it was just short of Brazil's tally.

Team USA, featuring the now five-time Olympic champion Simone Biles, won gold while Italy claimed silver.

Downie registered the highest uneven bars score of the final with an impressive 14.933, while Ruby Evans pulled off a strong 13.966 vault at her Games debut.

"We said ‘we would go all out’ and we left everything out there," Downie told BBC Sport. "It is a shame it didn’t go our way today."

    Matthew Henry
    BBC Sport in Paris

An all-action women's triathlon has wreaked havoc with our recap of yesterday's action but there is always time to look back on a gold medal for Team GB...

Great Britain retained their Olympic 4x200m freestyle relay title in commanding fashion to secure the team's first swimming gold in Paris.

After Adam Peaty and Matt Richards came agonisingly close with silvers, the same quartet that won in Tokyo - Richards, James Guy, Tom Dean and Duncan Scott - reunited to win in the cauldron of La Defense Arena.

They had a slender lead going into the final leg but Scott, who was a cruel fourth in the individual event 24 hours earlier, brought the team home to win by a relatively comfortable 1.35 seconds.

It's like a Mexican wave of noise as the athletes make their way back along the Seine behind the stand here before emerging back on to Pont du Alexandre, now bathed in morning sunshine.

From what I can see around me the streets are lined at least six or seven rows deep. It's great to see after all the uncertainty of recent days.

This is what it's all about, fast and furious racing at a fantastic location, with a brilliant atmosphere to boot.

Laura Lindemann didn't do a lot wrong there.

She is a good, strong, very technical rider.

There is grease on the road and that is causing the upsets that we have seen in the race. I don't remember a race where I have seen so many athletes go down.

It's still 10 in that lead group, including Team GB pair Beth Potter and Georgia Taylor-Brown.

Scrap that, we're down to nine as Germany's Laura Lindemann hits the tarmac and ends up scraping her leg on the cobbles.

    Oh dear.

For the second time in the race, Norway's Lottie Miller is down. She must have clipped the wheel of someone just in front of her.

She got up and continue after her first crash. This time she stays sat on the road. That looks to be it for her.

Another reminder of how tough these conditions are for the triathletes.
