Former GB triathlete on BBC TV

The front group is absolutely going to have to get a march on and they need a leader. They need an Alistair Brownlee in this group to bark some orders to get them going, but when a group is so big it’s really hard to get any formation.

It's a sizeable lead group still, about double the size of the select group we saw emerge at the front of the women's race.

Alex Yee will back himself to show his class on the run, but he needs to make sure he avoids any mishaps on the bike.

Thankfully for the men, who will have seen several of the women suffer crashes, the sun is shining and that has quickly dried up the roads here.

It's certainly caught some of us who dressed for the early morning rain a little off guard...

There's oohs and aahs from the audience but it was a little bit shaky from our girls.

Lois Toulson was ahead of Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix. Slightly off on their execution.

Just below what we would have expected from Andrea and Lois.

Hmmm. Not the best, that one. No fist pump from Fred this time.

Incidentally, for the second time the crowd had to be asked to be quiet when the divers are on the platform after GB's dive there.

  5. diving

GB slip down leaderboardpublished at 10:24 British Summer Time 31 July

    Women's synchronised 10m platform

Not an ideal third dive for Great Britain, who are given a score of 60.3.

The difficulty was upped but the synchronisation wasn't quite there.

This triathlon in Paris has given us everything.

The swim was the toughest swim I’ve seen and this is a challenging bike course – it is absolutely relentless.

  7. triathlon

Yee into second placepublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 31 July

    Men's triathlon

Second lap done and Team GB's Alex Yee is now up to second.

Given he is one of the strongest runners in this race, that is a fantastic position for him to be in.

There are huge crowds out around Paris to watch this race and with three French triathletes in the lead group, there is plenty for them to shout about.

  8. diving

Team GB sit secondpublished at 10:21 British Summer Time 31 July

    Women's synchronised 10m platform

That's the second dives done and dusted and GB's Lois Toulson and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix have moved up to second with 97.20.

Chinese pair Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan look to have already nailed down that gold medal with 111 as Ukraine sit third on 96.00.

  9. 'Really important game for Great Britain's women'published at 10:20 British Summer Time 31 July

Women's hockey: South Africa 1-1 Great Britain

    Sara Orchard
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

This is a really important game for Great Britain's women. They're at the bottom of Pool B. They've played two and won nothing. South Africa are ranked the lowest in this group. If GB don't get a win today, they'll have to rely on winning the last two games and other results going their way.

  10. triathlon

    Men's triathlon

More than close now, the two group have merged into one and Alex Yee is a part of it on his fetching bright pink bike.

Conditions are far better than during the women's race earlier. The roads have dried out so we shouldn't see the kind of slipping, sliding and, well, crashing we saw a couple of hours ago.

    Men`s Triathlon

    Annie Emmerson

This is turning out to be a fascinating ride.

I hadn’t realised how close Alex Yee’s group was.

  12. hockey

Half-time at the hockeypublished at 10:16 British Summer Time 31 July

Women's hockey: South Africa 1-1 Gret Britain

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Paris

Half-time at the hockey and GB go in level at 1-1. There's plenty to play for here.

Remember, a win is not imperative for GB's chances of progression out of the pool, but it would certainly be a welcome boost.

The pitch is getting a watering at half-time. If they could aim that giant water cannon in my direction that would be much appreciated. It's another toasty day here in Paris.

Lap one of seven on the bikes is done and Great Britain's Alex Yee and the chasing pack have now reeled in the leaders.

A huge 19-strong lead pack now with Yee right in the thick of it.

  14. diving

Another solid dive from GBpublished at 10:14 British Summer Time 31 July

Another solid dive from Team GB's Lois Toulson and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix!

They temporarily move up to first with another score of 48.60.

Heartbreak for Great Britain's Liam Pitchford as 13th seed Solvenian Darko Jorgic progresses to the round of 16 with a 4-2 win.

The Brit was up against from the start after falling two sets behind but managed to halve the deficit before Jorgic reinstated his two-set lead.

Pitchford made it interesting by taking the next set for 3-2 but Jorgic's talents proved too much in the end.

  16. diving

Team GB sit in thirdpublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 31 July

    Women's synchronised 10m platform

So, here's how things stand after the first round of diving.

China, as expected are out in front with 56.40, Canada are second with 49.20 and Great Britain occupy third with 48.60.

    Here come the British pair...

Bargeron misses out on finalpublished at 10:10 British Summer Time 31 July

    Mike Bargeron shooting

British shooter Mike Bargeron failed to qualify for the final in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions.

The head of shooting at Sevenoaks School in Kent finished 29th with a score of 584-28x.

China’s Yukun Liu top-scored with a new qualifying Olympic Record of 594-38x.

Elsewhere in the women’s trap, Yorkshire’s Lucy Hall scored 23/25 in round four of qualification and is four shots behind the top six, with just 25 shots left to shoot, at 10:30 BST. A place in the final is now unlikely.

  18. triathlon

Onto the bikespublished at 10:08 British Summer Time 31 July

    Men's triathlon

Italy's Alessio Crociani is first out of the water and races up the steps to get on his bike, literally.

Alex Yee is 18th and the Britain lost a bit of ground on that second lap in the Seine, he's 28 seconds back from the leader.

Still a long way to go - 50km to be precise; 40km on the bike and a 10km run.

  19. 'Swim is absolutely brutal 'published at 10:08 British Summer Time 31 July

    Men's triathlon

    Maz Farookhi
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

This swim is absolutely brutal for these triathletes. They're fighting against the current that is when they're using up so much energy. A few of these triathletes look disorientated.

  20. diving

'A steady start for Team GB'published at 10:06 British Summer Time 31 July

    Diving - women's synchronised 10m platform

    Leon Taylor
Olympic diving silver medallist on BBC TV

It's the kind of opening that we were hoping for.

    The synchronisation was brilliant.

We've seen them do it slightly better but that was a steady start.
