It's the best triathlon to watch and I think a lot of people came away from watching it as triathlon fans.

The water quality has been a hot topic the whole time we've been in Paris. We've literally been on tenterhooks until late last night, the water quality has improved enough to get this race to go ahead.

An early start doesn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the French fans - there’s a large group to the right waving the tricolore as the athletes dive into the water.

One of the problems of not having a familiarisation swim is you’re not used to the currents, the way it’s flowing etc. It leaves you doing a bit of working it out on the job.

    Triathlon mixed team relay

It's pretty hard to tell who is who while they're swimming, with the athletes all so close together. They are fighting hard against the current, and it's the Spanish athlete who comes out of the water first to get on his bike.

Alex Yee comes out in seventh, but he won't be too worried.

We know what he can do when he gets into his running!

'It does raise questions on the water quality'published at 07:02 British Summer Time 5 August

On the River Seine water quality...

I have not spoken to the athletes, but anyone I have spoken to they have been relatively cagey.

Athletes have got to focus on the fact there is a race happening and they cannot dwell on the if, buts or maybes - they have to deal with what is put to them.

They need to keep their focus, and if I was in their position I would focus on the things I can control.

But, it does raise questions on the water quality not just this race, but at any race we go to with triathlon.

  5. Belgium out of triathlon relaypublished at 07:01 British Summer Time 5 August

There has been plenty of coverage around the triathlons at this Games because of the water quality in the River Seine, which delayed several practice sessions and the men's individual event.

And now, Belgium have had to withdraw from the mixed relay because one of their athletes has fallen ill. Claire Michel finished 38th in the women's individual, and De Standaard, one of Belgium's biggest newspapers, is reporting that the 35-year-old has contracted E coli but BBC Sport has not been able to verify this claim.

It would be fair to say that Team GB go in as medal favourites, that is for sure. Team GB are the reigning champions and we won the inaugural mixed relay in Tokyo [2020 Olympics].

France are hot favourites, and I would say we are second favourites.

If there’s a view that’s worth getting up at 06:00 for, it is this.

I am sat just above the finish line at the mixed triathlon, which is going ahead this morning despite concerns over the water quality.

Yesterday’s practice swim was cancelled and teams put in a request to delay the competition to allow for more practice time.

  9. What happens in the mixed team relay triathlon?published at 06:56 British Summer Time 5 August

In case you were wondering how the mixed team relay triathlon works, here is a handy explainer:

    • There are 17 teams, each comprised of two men and two women.
    • Each athlete completes a 300m swim, 7.4km bike (two laps) and a 2km run (two laps) and they go in this order: male-female-male-female. This is a change from Tokyo where the order was female-male-female-male.
    • The expected durations per athlete are swim (five minutes), bike (12 minutes), run (seven minutes).
    • Each team’s start order was announced two days ago but changes can be made up to two hours before the race start.
