The women's track cycling sprint team have won gold, with a new world record as the cherry on top. They spoke to BBC Sport.

Katy Marchant: "I have no words. Phenomenal, Literally incredible."

Emma Finucane: "Honestly we’ve been working really hard on this and you will hear this a lot from us but the process is really key.

"We nailed that final and I believed in us before we went up to do it but to execute lap one, lap two and lap three pretty much perfectly and then to cross the line first, I was like ‘no way’.

"It's just a dream come true and to have these two by my side is unreal."

Sophie Capewell: "The support, the journey to get here, I’ve had my own personal battles and I wish my dad could have been in the stands watching me, but I know he was proud of me.

"It didn’t feel real all day, we just did every ride and 'oh faster, oh faster again'.

"Like Emma said – we stuck to our process."

A lot of composure in a team event like the sprint comes from the trust you have in your teammates to do their own jobs. There was complete trust between them, so each one of them could just focus on themselves.

This team are so young. I know Katy [Marchant] has been to a few Games before but Emma Finucane, she was so composed, as was Sophie [Capewell] too. So pleased for them, it was an amazing performance and what a way to kick off the track campaign.

It was the perfect performance. They were under so much pressure from the very first round, there was only four hundredths of a second difference.

The pushed that out of their minds, each rider had their individual jobs to focus on. To do that under those circumstances, it was a champion's performance.
