Track cycling - women's team sprint

The rest of the men's team sprint will take place tomorrow from 17.59 BST - very precise! Will GB be able to get themselves a medal?

For now, though, we move back to the women's event.

First up, it's the race for places 7th and 8th. Then for 5th and 6th.

At 18:54 it will be the bronze-medal race between the Netherlands and Germany.

Then it's the big one. Great Britain will battle against New Zealand for gold.

At five metres 70 centimetres that is ridiculous from Mondo Duplantis. He is so much better than everybody. Just look at how much space there is between him and the bar.

That 5.5m looked comfortable for Sam Kendricks, and we would expect it to as he's been in really good form.

He's gone over 5.9m seven times already this year so he would expect to be close to featuring in those medals later on tonight - as do we.

    Men's pole vault final

If there were any doubts about whether Mondo Duplantis was up for this final then the Swede has just laid down a major statement with his first vault.

The two-time world championship gold medallist and Tokyo 2020 gold medallist clears 5.70m with ease - he had plenty of room to spare and could have been around 6m in the air!

Morocco's Mohamed Tindouft runs a personal best 8:10.62 seconds to take the second heat, before heading over to the side of the track to hug compatriot Soufiane El Bakkali, who won the opening heat.

Ethiopia's Samuel Firewu, Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot, Japan's Ryuji Miura and India's Avinash Sable are also through.

There has also been a development from the opening heat and Kenya's Amos Serem, who finished sixth, has been handed a place in the final.

Replays show that Serem was either pushed or impeded by a cone - possibly both - as he attempted to jump a hurdle and was unable to make up enough ground to get into the top five.

No time to breathe, next up on the schedule tonight it’s the men’s team sprint qualifying.

Jack Carlin and Olympic debutants Ed Lowe and Hamish Turnbull race for Team GB. This is the first Olympics since 1996 that one of the Sirs, Chris Hoy or Jason Kenny, haven’t been involved in this event.

Carlin won silver alongside Kenny and Ryan Owens three years ago, losing out to the Dutch, who are the favourites again.

Sad to see the GB Hockey women go out. Feels like they are in a bit of a transition period, don't seem to have the quality throughout the team that got them gold in Rio, bronze in Tokyo and a 2022 Commonwealth Games gold too.

The opening heat - we've got three lined up - has just concluded and Morocco's Soufiane El Bakkali, who took gold at Tokyo 2020, takes victory at a canter.

There's a sizable group just in behind with Uganda's Leonard Chemutai, Ethiopia's Getnet Wale, Spain's Daniel Arce and Tunisia's Ahmed Jaziri securing their place in the final.

The top five finishers from each heat go through.

It's heartbreak for Kenya's Amos Serem - highly fancied to among those challenging for a medal - as he missed a hurdle and had to go back to complete it.

He just couldn't make up enough ground.

You have to time the changeover to perfection. If you get that wrong, you can lose tenths (of seconds) quite easily but you can also lose your race, because you can get yourself disqualified.

These girls are the best that’ve seen since the Victoria Pendleton days. The way they work together and that team environment that they have is fantastic. They want ach other to do well, whether they’re in the team sprint or whether they go on to complete individually.

That to me is what makes them successful
