    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

That was 79.2 kilometres per hour from Matthew Richardson, that must be so scary to do on that track. A 45 degree bend it not enough, he's probably touching three Gs as well.

Israel's Mikhail Yakovlev has just set a new Olympic record of 9.152 seconds.

That is likely to be short-lived though. On this track, and with the world's very best still to come in qualifying, that record - and the world record - is likely to tumble further.

It's been incredible, a cracking start for Team GB in the cycling. We've already won a silver last night, guaranteed another silver at least. It's been an amazing start.

Finucane success not a shock for parentspublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 7 August

    Cycling - women's Keirin heats

Emma Finucane could end the Olympics as one of the stars for Great Britain as she bids to becom a three-time gold medallist.

A world and Olympic champion at 21 hasn't shocked father Rory at all.

“I remember her first race,” recalls her father, Rory. “You could see then that she enjoyed it so much, it made her competitive. She put a lot of effort in and she was really keen.”

“She just enjoyed racing,” adds her mother, Susie. “She didn’t mind if the weather was bad. It was the speed too - she always liked to go fast.”

Her success? “You could see it coming,” her father added.

Great Britain's representative in a sport dominated by teenagers is 51-year-old Andy Macdonald, the oldest ever Olympic skateboarder.

The Massachusetts-born skateboarding legend qualifies for GB via his Luton-born father.

He's been a pro since 1994, was one of the early advocates for skateboarding as an Olympic sport and says he has probably created a lot of the skills that today's skateboarders perform.

His team-mates are younger than his son and he calls himself a 'Rad Dad'. He's in the fourth qualifying group so we will see him a bit later.

Hull enduring nightmare at Le Golf Nationalpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 7 August

    Women's golf

We have bad news from the golf, where things could not really be going much worse for Britain's Charley Hull.

She is seven-over par after just 12 holes, leaving her dead last on the leaderboard out of 60 competitors.

The only good news for Hull is that this is the opening round of four - plenty of time to make amends. Her team-mate Georgia Hall is one-under after three.

Carlin cycling's 'nearly man'published at 12:05 British Summer Time 7 August

Track cycling - men's sprint qualifying

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Paris

Jack Carlin is used to being on the podium, but he's also used to hearing other national anthems.

To his name he has three Olympic, five World Championship and six European medals - but none of them are gold.

In an era of Dutch dominance, it's Jeffrey Hoogland and Harrie Lavreysen who are the men to beat in the sprint. But how much pressure can Britain's Carlin put them under?

"Everyone's beatable," Carlin told BBC Sport Scotland. "Even the best make mistakes.

"We've all gone out early in competitions, we've all made silly moves that cause us to fall off.

"It's just part and parcel of being a track sprinter because it's so demanding.

"Basically, you have to race a single person each time. There's no hiding."

Hamish Turnbull was "buzzing" after winning Olympic team sprint silver at his debut Games last night.

Wonder if he's come down off cloud nine yet, or whether that adrenaline will give him added firepower on the boards today?

When he was just 14, he became the youngest rider in history to claim a British national track sprint title.

That record was previously held by some guys you might have heard of.

It’s hard to get across how quickly these athletes climb this 15m wall.

It’s about twice the size of your standard semi-detached house in the UK or three London buses stacked on top of each other but is scaled in less than seven seconds.

We're about to get underway with the men's skateboarding park preliminaries.... this is the one in the concrete bowl rather than the street one that has the rails.

it's a simple format - there are 22 skaters and they are divided into four groups. Each skater does three 45-second runs.

Five judges use a scale of 0.00-100.00 to judge each of the runs. The highest and lowest scores are dropped, with the remaining three averaged (to two decimal places) to give an overall score.

The top eight qualify for the final.
