    Men's high jump qualification

Possible heartbreak for Mutaz Barshim of Qatar in the men's high jump. The reigning (joint) champion has pulled up with what looks like a calf injury.

It could be cramp, but he has stayed down for quite a while.

And who is the first one over to check on him? Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi, who shared the gold with him in Tokyo.

Somehow though, he manages to get up and jump 2.27m - but is still holding his calf in pain as he lands. The qualifying mark for the final is 2.29m (or the top 12).

More chaotic scenes in the men's 5,000m heats this morning!

As the runners take the turn for the straight, a rogue cameraman was just casually walking from the middle of the track to the edge - right through the pack of runners!

Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen was far from happy as he gestured towards the cameraman.

In such a big group, there was always the risk of an incident or two.

    One, two, three, four!

A huge tangle of legs in the home straight and Great Britain's George Mills is among them. He crosses the line, and will hope he is reinstated, but he needs to calm himself down here as he goes pointing a finger at one of the athletes he feels is to blame.

    What a mess.

Expect Jakob Ingebrigtsen to make sure the field is well spread out in this next heat.

Two rounds left to go in the diving, and Britain's Jack Laugher and Jordan Houlden are sitting pretty.

Laugher clocked his lowest score so far - 64.35 - on his fourth dive, but it was also his most difficult of the contest. There was a bit of a grimace on the Brit's face as he came out of the water and saw the score on the big screen.

He's still in third, with Houlden in fifth and looking good for reaching the final in his debut Games.

Just 14 hours after missing out on the medals in a dramatic men's 1500m final, Jakob Ingebrigtsen returns to the track for the start of the 5,000m competition.

Ingebrigtsen, 1500m champion in Tokyo, set a ferocious pace as he and rival Josh Kerr played out their anticipated gold medal battle, only for American Cole Hocker to steal in on the inside.

Following that final, the 23-year-old Norwegian took to Instagram to share his thoughts.

"Well, I guess he [Kerr] did show up after all…! Hocker and Nuguse as well," Ingebrigtsen said.

"My team always say that “because you have a big mouth and is the one to beat, you have everything to lose in competitions”.

"Today, Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse and Josh Kerr outsmarted me. They were “the best guys” when it really mattered. And I want to congratulate them all on a great performance!"

Ingebrigtsen is the two-time reigning world champion in the 5,000m and so will feel confident of leaving Paris 2024 with a medal as he gets his campaign under way in that event.

Sam Atkin will be tasked with keeping pace with him in that heat, after George Mills and Patrick Dever go in heat one.

    Men’s 5000m first round

The men's 5000m first round is about to start, with European silver medallist George Mills and fellow Brit Patrick Dever in heat one (10:10 BST).

They are up against Ethiopia’s Hagos Gebrhiwet, who ran the second fastest 5000m in history this May with 12:36.73 in Oslo.

The morning after losing his 1500m Olympic title, Jakob Ingebrigtsen is in heat two. He’s the reigning two-time world champion at this distance.

Reigning Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei and fellow Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo have withdrawn, citing fatigue from the 10,000m, which Cheptegei won.

The top eight from each heat will advance to Saturday's final.
