Djokovic 3-3 Alcaraz - gold medal match

Well, it's been a while but we have had a comfortable hold.

Carlos Alcaraz keeps it on serve, holding to 15.

There is still time for the Spaniard to produce a stunning cross-court winner on the run. But then that is pretty much par for the course with him.

I think every single point does matter. Djokovic is sitting down and gesturing to his support camp about thinking out here. There is just so much tension.

We are seeing points won in many different ways. It’s certainly not going to be boring contest this one.

The entire crowd just gasped at that drop shot from Alcaraz that somehow caught the line.

The mix of touch and power from the Spaniard is astonishing. You sometimes can’t appreciate just quite how hard he hits a tennis ball.

You can tell Djokovic is just trying to protect his bandaged right knee. Clay is a tricky surface, needing you to slide and trust in it, and the last thing he’d want is an awkward landing and jarring it slightly.

His play on the biggest points, though, is astounding. He nailed his serve on every one of those break points. A huge hold.

Djokovic 3-2 Alcaraz - gold medal match

Having had to work so hard to hold serve early in this match, Carlos Alcaraz is able to put pressure on the Novak Djokovic serve for the first tie.

A drop shot left by Djokovic clips the line and twice he earns break points. But each time, Djokovic produces big, accurate serves to keep the Spaniard at bay.

Make that three times. Then he coolly puts away a volley to clinch the game. Both players have shown remarkable resilience on serve already in this first set.

Two men's finals and one women's final are taking place today at Bercy Arena but there's one thing missing from the line-up - Simone Biles.

Gymnastics' poster girl secured her third gold of the Games on Saturday in the vault final having already topped the podium in the team and individual all-around finals. However, Biles has not qualified for today's uneven bars final.

It is the only apparatus she missed out on the final for, finishing ninth in the qualifying event. She will be back in action tomorrow in the beam and floor finals.

Well, she had to give someone else a chance at some point.

    Attaboy Tommy!

Fleetwood knocks in a long 'un for a birdie two on the eighth.

Yesterday the Team GB star spoke about not swinging freely and not giving himself enough close opportunities.

    It feels the same today.

Will that heck of a putt ignite his final round and allow him to pressure Rahm?

Rahm, after birdieing the seventh, leads on 18 under as Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele and Hideki Matsuyama jostle on 15 under.

Fleetwood needs to start taking more risks. I'm not sure Rahm and Schauffele will be dropping too many more shots.

Novak Djokovic is fired up as a rocket of a forehand return helps him bring up three break points.

There's no panic from Carlos Alcaraz. The 21-year-old has composure beyond his years and he calmly goes about saving each one in turn.

It takes a couple more deuces but Alcaraz eventually holds with a smart drop-volley. 2-2.

Bonjour from the Bercy Arena where the gymnastics is about to get under way. Three individual apparatus finals, three Brits involved.

First up it's Harry Hepworth on the rings. Great Britain have never had anyone feature in the Olympic rings final so it's already history for the 20-year-old.

Then, Becky Downie will chase her dream of winning an Olympic medal in the women's uneven bars before Hepworth and Jake Jarman, who secured bronze on floor yesterday, will go in the vault final.

Jarman's medal on Saturday came as a bit of surprise with vault his favoured apparatus - he is the reigning world, European and Commonwealth champion.

Great Britain had to wait until day nine to get on the artistic gymnastics podium, but could they add to that tally today?

Many would answer that question with a derisory ‘no’.

Even the world’s best golfers did when the sport was readmitted to the Olympics in 2016.

In Paris, it feels like the dial is shifting.

Eight of the world's top 10 are playing - only Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau missing because of four Americans above them qualifying instead.

A leaderboard stacked with star names going into today’s final round further boosts its credentials.

Add in the enthusiasm and colour of almost 30,000 fans at Le Golf National, it has been a roaring success.

"I think it's a little more fun than a major. Sort of like a celebration in a way," Rory McIlroy, a naysayer eight years ago, said yesterday.

"It has the feel of a big-time event for sure."

Alcaraz is aiming for that forehand again. I think we have already seen what Djokovic is aiming to do tactically here. I think he has shown his hand very early here.

I think he is going to try and get the backhand to backhand going with Alcaraz, then take his backhand down the line, and then not get trapped in a forehand to forehand rally by taking his forehand down the line.

That's the pattern I'm seeing in the early stages of this first set.

Djokovic popped a white cap on at the end of his first service game as the sun beats down.

The end he’s serving from - in front of the dignitaries - has the sun blazing right down on him when he throws the ball to serve. It must be a nightmare to see as you look upwards.

I’m not sure it affected that attempted overhead that he missed, though - that’s more testament to Alvarez’s ability to get everything back.

    Tennis - men's singles final

Novak Djokovic misses an overhead smash to go down 0-30 and give Carlos Alcaraz a sniff of a break.

However, the top seed is helped out as his Spanish opponent twice goes long with powerful forehands and when Alcaraz sends a third forehand way over the baseline, Djokovic has the hold.

Still on serve, 2-1 in the first set.

The first break opportunity of the final goes the way of Novak Djokovic but Carlos Alcaraz saves it with a brilliantly disguised drop shot.

A brilliant cross-court backhand winner brings up a second game point for Spaniard and when Djokovic's backhand miscue goes wide, the number two seed holds.

It's 1-1 and on serve in the first set but it already feels like we could be in for an epic.

Disqualification setback for GB sailorspublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 4 August

    Mixed dinghy

Mixed news from the waters, where Vita Heathcote and Chris Grube are competing for GB in the mixed dinghy sailing.

You need to be in the top 10 out of 19 competitors after 10 rounds of racing in order to reach the medal final - currently the GB pair are 11th in the standings.

Heathcote and Grube's efforts have been hampered by a disqualification from race six for "starting under a U flag" - effectively a false start.

But they remain in contention to qualify for the final, which is scheduled for this Wednesday.

Elsewhere, still no luck in the kitesurfing. The inaugural Olympic competition was due to begin this morning but has been delayed, with no scheduled start time currently.
