I think Katarina is looking good. She had a fantastic year last year, becoming world champion for the second time.

She has got some great speed and is very good over the hurdles. It will be a good indication after the hurdles as to how her last few weeks have gone, going into the Olympic Games.

Cracking morning for a run. And a hurdle. Or a throw.

The Stade de France is basking in the early morning sun, the purple track glistening like lavender fields of the south of France which it is representing.

Lots of huge events coming up and we've already had an important one - a race between two mini remote control cars.

I think France won it. Quelle surprise...

The heptathlon begins this morning with the 100m hurdles kicking off the seven-discipline event at 09:05 BST.

World champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson is Great Britain's great medal hope but in a glittering career that has seen her take gold at two World Championships - 2019 and 2023 - as well as at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games, the 31-year-old is yet to produce her best at the Olympics.

The Liverpudlian, 31, finished 14th on her Olympic debut in 2012, came sixth four years later in Rio and injury prevented her from finishing in Tokyo three years ago.

Her triumph in Budapest last year showed what she is capable of but injuries remain a nagging concern.

Johnson-Thompson withdrew from the European Championships after just three events in June but she has since returned to action and will hope that this is the year she is finally able to put it all together at an Olympics.

If she does then, despite tough competition from the likes of two-time defending champion Nafi Thiam of Belgium, a first Olympic medal could be within her grasp.

Staying with Netherlands success and Marit Bouwmeester has become the most decorated female Olympic sailor by claiming dinghy gold.

Bouwmeester, 36, has overtaken Britain's Hannah Mills, who won three Olympic medals - two gold and one silver - across three Games between 2012 and 2020.

Denmark's Anne-Marie Rindom won silver in Marseille with Norway's Line Flem Hoest taking bronze.

"It's nice to finally finish it off - it hasn't sunk in yet," Bouwmeester said.

"I have so much respect for Line and Anne-Marie, we push each other all the way."

Bouwmeester won silver at London 2012, gold at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020.

In the men's dinghy event, Australia's Matt Wearn made it back-to-back gold medals following his success in Tokyo.

Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus picked up his second silver at his fifth Games, and bronze was claimed by Peru's Stefano Peschiera, despite collecting several penalties in the final.

Team GB's Micky Beckett, appearing at his first Olympics, finished sixth overall.

I am so happy. I am ecstatic as I know this is just the start. I am healthy which is a big thing, and this is just the start. I am just going to keep building here really and keep going.

The feelings were, after 2021, I felt that in three years I was not in the sport mentally that I am now an Olympic silver medallist and the fifth fastest of all time. It was happiness rather than bitterness. It was the second-fastest race in Olympic history. It's history at the end of the day and I am glad to be a part of it.

It wasn't the perfect race at this time. I know there is more in the tank and other areas I can work on. This is just the start.
