The second round of the women's golf is just getting started at Le Golf National.

France's Celine Boutier has a three-shot lead after a seven-under 65 in the first round but there is a lot of work to for the two Team GB entrants.

Georgia Hall starts her second round at 09:22 BST and is nine shots off the lead at two over par, while a nightmare opening round for Charley Hull means she is nine over and in need of a minor miracle to get anywhere close to medal contention. She is on the first tee at 10:44.

For this Olympics, they have allowed swimmers who qualified for the 800m and 1500m to enter the open water swimming.

Ireland's Daniel Wiffen, the 800m Olympic champion in the pool, is down to swim it. I don't know whether the open water swimmers like the fact they have a free ride into it.

It may not have as much of an impact in this race as it did in Tokyo, where the conditions were much more favourable to a pool swimmer.

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Paris

Great Britain won silver in a pulsating men's team pursuit final before the women's quartet backed that up with bronze in the Paris Olympic velodrome.

Ethan Hayter, Dan Bigham, Charlie Tanfield and Ethan Vernon were pipped to gold by Australia, who triumphed in this event for the first time since the 2004 Games.

Elinor Barker, Josie Knight, Anna Morris and Jess Roberts then beat Italy to continue GB's run of reaching the women's team pursuit podium at every Olympics since it was introduced in 2012.

The men's four, alongside Ollie Wood who rode in the earlier rounds, had the honour of winning Great Britain's 1,000th Olympic medal - combining summer and winter Games, according to Team GB.

Great Britain have now won four medals in three days on the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines track, after gold and silver in the women's and men's team sprint finals respectively.

    Athletics - men's 500m heats

Few would have forecast the men's heats to be the most chaotic event of Paris 2024 so far - but it is a strong contender after Wednesday's drama.

As the runners in heat one battled for a top-eight qualifying spot, European silver medallist Mills - son of former England footballer Danny - attempted to force his way through the field from near the back on the final straight.

In doing so he bumped shoulders with French runner Hugo Hay, then collided with Eritrea's Aron Kifle, causing both to fall into Mohammed Ahmed of Canada while also collecting Dutch runner Mike Foppen.

Mills then angrily confronted Hay after crossing the finish line, before asserting to the BBC that he had been stepped on.

He finished 18th, but tournament organisers ruled that Mills had been impeded and sent him through along with Hay and the other fallers - meaning 20 men will compete in the 5,000m final on Saturday.

There were distressing scenes in the men's 3000m steeplechase last night as Lamecha Girma was taken to hospital after a horrific fall.

The world record holder from Ethiopia tripped over a barrier on the final lap and suffered a heavy fall onto the track.

Girma, 23, lay motionless as medical staff attended to him before being carried out of the stadium on a stretcher and wearing a neck brace.

"Following his fall in the 3,000m steeplechase, Lamecha Girma received immediate care from the on-site medical teams. Our thoughts are with him and we are sending him our very best wishes for a swift recovery," Paris 2024 said in a statement.

"Paris 2024 is in close contact with the Ethiopian NOC to stay updated on his condition."

Morocco's Soufiane El Bakkali retained his Olympic title, while American Kenneth Rooks took silver and Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot claimed bronze.
