Chants of 'MVP! MVP! MVP!' ring around Paris Bercy Arena.

Nikola Jokic, who was indeed voted the NBA's most valuable player in the 2024 season, is the man being saluted.

The Serbia superstar draws a foul and sticks away the free throw to put his team 42-25 ahead.

A lot of perplexed Americans around. Not least Travis Scott.

The United States do buck their ideas up, managing to cut the 17-point deficit to a 11-point gap at half-time.

In the first bout of the night at Roland Garros, Uzbekistan's Abdumalik Khalokov has beaten Charlie Senior of Australia by unanimous decision to progress to the final in the 57kg category.

At 21:18 BST Cindy Ngamba, already guaranteed to be the Refugee Olympic team's first medallist, boxes for a place in the final.

Cameroon-born Ngamba has lived in the UK since she was 10. She trains with the GB squad but was not allowed to compete for Team GB because, despite trying, she does not yet have British citizenship.

USA team-mate Daniel Roberts was also fast off the line and ends his final with a silver medal, and Jamaica's Rasheed Broadbell is the owner of a Paris bronze.

I think that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has her eye on that 400m open, 400m flat world record.

She talked about it a lot last year and went out and ran it last year, trained for it and then decided to shut it down for the season.

All the talk has been about the USA's Gen Z 'Dream Team' - but it's not going to plan so far.

Serbia have smothered them, stifling their attacking talent.

NBA powerhouses Bogdan Bogdanovic and Nikola Jokic are doing the damage as Serbia lead at the end of the first quarter.

Only Steph Curry finding space to land his usual flurry of three-pointers is keeping the Americans in touch.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone should get a special bell for her world-record performance.

The 25-year-old American retains her Tokyo title and was so far ahead of the rest, she could've eased up and given a wave to the crowd. But she didn't, she went all-out for that golden time instead.

USA team-mate Anna Cockrell, the silver medallist, also clocked her own personal best time of 51.87 seconds.

I spoke with Bobby Kersee just a couple of weeks ago and he said she doesn't think she has actually taken this record to where it can go when she ran the 50.65 at the US Olympic trials.

They have just continued to push the boundaries and practice because they believe that Sydney can actually run under 50 seconds for 400m hurdles.

That's what she was focused on.

'A beautiful race' - Tebogopublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 8 August

    Men's 200m final

    Letsile TebogoImage source, Getty Images

Letsile Tebogo after becoming Botswana's first ever Olympic champion by winning gold in the men's 200m final:

"It was really a beautiful race for me. When we made it to the final, my coach just told me: 'Now my job is done - it’s up to you to see what you can do. Whether it’s a medal or not, just finish the race healthy."

"That’s all I could’ve wished for. I’m happy I finished the race healthier than before."

On his shoes, which bear his late mother's date of birth:

“It’s basically me carrying her through every stride that I take inside the field. Me, to take her, it gives me a lot of motivation. She’s watching up there, and she’s really, really happy. I didn’t want to put the date of her death, because I’ll get emotional."

On taking a break from training after his mum's death in May:

"I took about three weeks to a month without doing anything. It wasn’t really clicking for me that she’s really gone. For me, I have to find the reason why I started my athletics journey and why I should continue going on.

"But I’m really grateful for the team around me. They really pushed me through thick and thin. We had our ups and downs, but we just made sure that we pulled through and made it to the Olympics."

More from Katarina Johnson-Thompson on BBC One:

"The high jump, I’ve been wanting to get back into 90s for a long time, since my achilles rupture I haven’t jumped in the 90s since 2019. A post-achilles rupture PB. I'm so happy to get it today."

On her record shot put: “That was entirely for Denise Lewis sitting in the studio, probably the best thing I've ever done in my career and I've jumped 1.98 - that topped everything. A little 14m shot put.”

On the 200m: “I’m in really good 200m shape so that was really frustrating. I was aiming for as close to 23 seconds as possible but it’s the heptathlon, very tired at the end of the first day so you know what I’ll take it."

On what she’ll do for the next 12 hours: “Recover, eat, ice bath, try and sleep, come back tomorrow. See you bright and early!”
