Team Ireland's representatives in this final, Daniel Coyle and Shane Sweetnam, are also out of the medal hunt as they fail to go clear.

The duo qualified in second and third positions but Coyle, who is from Derry in Northern Ireland, and his horse legacy had to retire while Sweetnam had 12 penalties.

As we've been saying, there have been so many falls and mistakes in this final.

This fall from Sweden's Henrik von Eckermann was one of the nastier ones but thankfully, he and his horse were unharmed.

It's getting a little unsettled at the equestrian. Some of the crowd can't help themselves but let out a few screams as the horse bounds around. That noise is met by a polite shussshhh from the regulars.

Both Jack Laugher and Jordan Houlden bust out their toughest dives of the prelims in round four, showcasing their skills to pull off a 3.9 difficulty.

Laugher executes his dive better - to the tune of 13 points from the judges - but both remain in third and fourth and comfortably poised for qualification.

    Two rounds to go.

    Chaos!

Medal hopeful Henrik von Eckermann is down. He completely loses control and his horse, King Edward, is spooked and backs out of a jump.

Von Eckermann is thrown off his horse, but thankfully isn't seriously hurt and the horse calms down, too.

I repeat, STILL only two have gone clear!

  11. What to watchpublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 6 August

    BBC One

The equestrian jumping individual final continues on BBC One. When it breaks around 10:20 BST, we'll cross to Bercy Arena to see Greece - led by NBA great Giannis Antetokounmpo - take on Germany in the quarter-finals of the men's basketball.

Coverage of that match will then switch to the Red Button, replacing the athletics we're currently showing there, once BBC One returns to equestrian coverage.

Remember, if you're in the UK, you can keep across both streams on this page.

The second heat of the men's 110m hurdles repechage needed FOUR attempts to get under way.

The first saw a false start by Kazakhstan's David Yefremov, who was disqualified. The second was paused because of shouting from the crowd. The third attempt failed when the starting pistol failed to go off.

When it did eventually start there was also drama at the finish.

Brazil's Rafael Pereira was the comfortable winner, but France's Raphael Mohamed edged through in second after a three-way photo finish with Algeria's Amine Bouanani and Manuel Mordi of Germany.

The lean on the line made the difference for Mohamed, who sneaked through by 1/1000th of a second.

Frustration for Scott Brash and Jefferson as one fence is knocked over and that means it is very unlikely that GB will find themselves on the podium in this event.

What is the jump-off and how does it work?published at 09:56 British Summer Time 6 August

    Individual jumping final

As things stand, we do currently know that at least two riders will be competing in the jump-off for the gold medal, once all 30 riders have been.

    But how does it work?

If there is a tie on penalties for the gold medal, there will be a jump-off. With penalties only awarded for jumping faults and no optimum time to beat, top honours would go to the fastest rider with the fewest penalties. The other riders are placed according to their penalties and time.

If there are no more than two athletes tied on penalties for first place, and there are athletes tied on penalties and time for bronze, there also will be a jump-off for that medal, which will take place before the jump-off for gold.

If there are no riders tied on penalties for the gold medal but there are some tied on penalties and time for silver or bronze, there will be a jump-off to decide the respective medal placing.

As things stand, Ben Maher is currently in a tie for third, but there are still 12 riders to go, including Great Britain's Scott Brash.

Team GB's Revee Walcott-Nolan speaking to the BBC after her heat. She will run in the repechage tomorrow at 11:45 BST: "I got caught up on a couple of trips and I have been spiked.

"It happened three times and it threw me off my rhythm. I can run so much faster than that so I am annoyed.

"I felt good at the bell and I thought I could claw back into the top six. But, where I come off the pack I had to go wide and I didn't have the legs in the final group - I am really disappointed in that.

"I am glad I got another chance, but it's not ideal. Hopefully, I am strong enough to make it through the repechage."
