Kerr v Ingebrigtsen prepare for epic showdownpublished at 08:15 British Summer Time 6 August

    Men's 1500m final

The tension on the track heats up further tonight with rivals Josh Kerr and Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen competing in a highly-anticipated 1500m final.

Ingebrigtsen reckons he can beat Josh Kerr blindfolded when fully fit.

World champion Kerr says the Olympic gold medallist has "flaws on the track and in the manners realm". And that he's surrounded by "yes men".

But when the gun heralds the start of the men's 1500m in the Stade de France on Tuesday, talk will fall silent. Deed will take over.

Barring a significant shock, one of these two will be crowned Olympic champion in Paris. It will be "one of the most vicious and hardest 1500m races seen in a very long time", according to Team GB captain Kerr.

"There's been a lot of words over the last two years," added the Tokyo bronze medallist. "I'm just looking to settle that. I'm ready to go after it."

Team GB's Harry Charles has withdrawn from today’s individual showjumping final because his horse Romeo 88 is not fit enough to compete.

In a post on social media, Charles said: "Unfortunately me and Romeo will not start the individual final today in Paris. After a small overreach yesterday he is not quite the 110% that he has been the whole games, so we are not taking any risks.

"Maybe I'm a little disappointed but honestly not really. He has given me so much and took me beyond my dreams, we’re leaving Paris with a gold medal and more importantly a happy Romeo, so that’s way more than enough for me."

Charles' Team GB team-mates Scott Brash and Ben Maher are still in contention for the event, which gets under way at 09:00 BST.

The trio won gold in the equestrian team jumping on Friday.

Toulson, 24, was 14.30 points off the qualification places with the top 12 advancing.

The British pair have already won bronze in the women's synchronised 10m platform.

Great Britain claimed Olympic triathlon mixed team relay bronze after initially being announced as silver medallists following a photo finish on a thrilling morning in Paris.

The quartet of Alex Yee, Georgia Taylor-Brown, Samuel Dickinson and Beth Potter had jostled with Germany for the lead throughout the race.

They held a five-second lead going into the final stage but Potter was caught on the cycle leg by Germany's Laura Lindemann and American Taylor Knibb.

Roared on by the British team down the iconic Pont Alexandre III, Potter could not match Lindemann's final kick but she and Knibb crossed the line almost in tandem.

Britain were initially announced as having won silver but, following a review by race officials, it was confirmed just before the medal ceremony that the United States had finished second, with Britain third.

Great Britain’s Joe Clarke won Olympic silver after team-mate Kimberley Woods claimed bronze in a wonderfully-chaotic kayak cross event which entertained and excited the Paris 2024 fans.

In an event making its Olympic debut, Clarke finished second to make up for missing out on a medal in the men's kayak single final earlier this week.

"I came here for gold. I've got silver, which I'm very proud of. What a Games," said 31-year-old Clarke, who was selected by Team GB after being overlooked for Tokyo 2020.

Moments earlier, Woods clinched her second medal of the Games after also winning bronze in a dramatic women's single final.

The International Boxing Association held a chaotic news conference on Monday which left more questions than answers over an eligibility row that has overshadowed boxing at the 2024 Olympics.

Algeria's Imane Khelif and Taiwanese fighter Lin Yu-ting are guaranteed at least bronze medals in the women's competition in Paris, having been cleared to compete in the Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

That's despite the pair being disqualified from the 2023 Women's World Championships after the IBA, which organised the event, claimed they had failed gender eligibility tests.

Duplantis breaks pole vault world record on way to goldpublished at 07:38 British Summer Time 6 August

Athletics - men's pole vault final

Sweden's Armand Duplantis set a new world record of 6.25m after winning gold in the men's pole vault.

The 24-year-old, who had secured successive Olympic titles by clearing six metres, set an Olympic record of 6.10m with his next attempt.

And he improved his world best of 6.24m, that he set in April, by one centimetre at his third and final attempt, to the delight of the crowd in the Stade de France.

The two-time world champion has now broken the record on nine occasions.

American Sam Kendricks, cleared 5.95m to take silver, while Greece's Emmanouil Karalis secured bronze on countback with a best of 5.90m.

Duplantis, the first athlete to retain the pole vault title since American Bob Richards in 1952 and 1956, raced to his friends and family after breaking the world record.

He then embarked on a lap of the track draped in the Swedish flag, as Abba's 'Dancing Queen' blasted out of the stadium sound system.

    Women's 5000m final

Before Keely Hodgkinson's epic win there was drama on the track in the women's 5000m.

Netherlands' Sifan Hassan began her attempt at an astonishing treble of the 5,000m, 10,000m and the marathon - but was held off by stunning final laps from Kenyans Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon.

Kipyegon claimed silver, was then disqualified as she was deemed to have obstructed Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay, and then she was reinstated after an appeal.

Hassan couldn't keep up as the pair kicked clear to take her 5,000m title which she won in Tokyo, having to settle for the bronze.
